“VEIL LIFTER” ALBUM BY POST DEATH SOUNDTRACK: A MESMERIZING JOURNEY THROUGH DOOM GRUNGE

5 min read

I always say, sometimes a song is enough but then, sometimes you just need a full album that will just keep you in that mood and feel over a period of time. An album that can make you feel good and enjoy those moments, while allowing you to immerse yourself into each song and leaving a lasting impression on you, with energized themes, catchy hooks and above all beautiful storylines and storytelling. This band has created the unthinkable, an album poised with beautiful melodies, interesting tales and melodic sounds to keep the listener entertained and hooked from track 1 to track 10 with an intro. Indeed Post Death Soundtrack has returned, and this fourth full-length album titled, Veil Lifter, is an eye watering masterpiece.

Now what’s beautiful about this album is the way each track has something to offer and follow suit. The album has got tracks that infuses doom, grunge, hardcore, and thrash to create an intriguing piece and give the listener value for their money. Now if you follow the band closely, you can see this album has actually shifted a bit to a more ‘doom grunge’ approach, which is deeply influenced by the bands that first inspired them like Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, Nirvana, and The Stooges, with some modern heavy music innovators like Russian Circles, Windhand, Queens of the Stone Age, and YOB. Through these influences they have created something refreshing and beautiful that you can’t play once but have it on repeat. Now this album Veil Lifter is an aggressive blend of sludgy riffs, hardcore fury, hypnotic grooves, and empyrean ambience, all infused together to achieve one common goal, polished and refined to create an atmosphere of meditation on mental illness and its effects. If people haven’t been in your shoes, they would never know how you actually feel and what you experience and why you behave as such. People judge from afar without actually getting closer to know why people do what they do or why they did what they did. This album with an inspiration from the Eastern philosophy concept of “lifting the veil of ignorance,” go ahead to lay emphasis on shamanic visions, shadowy dreamscapes, and a scorched Earth. The album explores the harsh realities of isolation, depression, addiction, and chaos, and above all, becomes a pillar of protection and resilience. Life can kick you in the butt soo hard that, you begin to wonder if you’re the only being affected, then addiction kicks in and you begin to make vows of never doing it again and the next moment, you find yourself in the act. And just when you go some days without those addiction, you begin to feel depressed, and it feels like the whole world is crashing on you, and you’re all by yourself and no one is on your side. That’s where you begin to realize you had dreams, you had ambitions and therefore you gotta get back and move on, with strength and resilience you can achieve it all. This is how you create an album, to impact the lives of your listeners and to be honest, I love it and it’s beautiful.

Now setting the stage for the rest of the album is the track, “The Die Us Cast”. This track starts beautifully with some roaring guitar riffs accompanied by those rocky drums, which immediately captures your attention, and when you’re immersed in its haunting atmosphere, the screaming vocals strikes you with its dark themes with lines like “here come the savior bloody broken and sore, here come the bastards chanted let’s start a war”. Hinting at the struggle and defiance one faces in those times. It’s like a part of you wants it, and a part of you doesn’t, confused and destructive, then the song’s switch nearing the end, to allow you to mediate on the lyrics and reflect on your life, just takes the whole listening experience to another level. Such a lovely way to open the album. Another track that picks itself is the track “Arjuna’s Hunting Hand”. Wow, this track is very spiritual, it starts with this single note laying below to get the listener in anticipation, for over a minute and then this gritty guitar riffs and drums kicks in with intensity, creating this haunting atmosphere with introspective lyrics. The track is beautiful and carefully crafted, making it an amazing piece on the album, I want you to experience it magic, so I’ll leave more details out hahaha, see you can’t skip any song on this album, what’s beautiful about this track is, it’s got some country vibe too, which is lovely. Another track that just makes you wanna repeat the whole album again is the track titled “Immovable”. This is really intriguing, the way it starts with this nice guitar strings, which transitions to a more intensified guitar riffs, blended with some rocky drums just gives you a sweet goodbye to your worries. The song asks you to be immovable, don’t settle for less, fight for what’s yours, no matter what happens, even the slimmest of hope can move mountains, so why give up? When the struggles comes, be patient, fight through it and see the light shine on you. What I love about this track is its evocative lyrics, then the way the track allows you to immersive yourself in its feel and enjoy those interludes, my goodness that’s how you make an album, with a sense of hope in the most difficult times. With lines like “don’t pray for light in the darkness, the spark comes to those who discard it” hinting at the struggle and confusion in moments of despair. And in such situations, keep going and keep grinding till you make it. A hidden gem on the album, the track titled Lowdown Animal, just check it out, and enjoy some crazy shit 💥.

Well Veil Lifter by Post Death Soundtrack is indeed a masterpiece. From the arrangements of the track, to each track carrying a message, to its beautiful compositions crafted and polished to its finest by Ireson and Moore arranging drums, rhythm guitars, and bass along with Casey Lewis, bringing in the final touch, I say together they have created something that will forever stay with us. So why don’t you go ahead and give this album a listen and have a wonderful weekend ahead with it. ENJOY!! Make sure to check them out on the links below for more;
