Erotika Dabra’s EAT ME / DRINK ME: A Sonic Rebellion Between Fantasy and Flesh

EAT ME / DRINK ME does not come out of the blue with an unassuming reputation and does not attempt to run neatly into a genre. It develops as an invocation, a form of corporality and sound in which the underground rhythm of electronic production crashes with the primordial and emancipatory eroticism of pole dance. Since the first beats the song proclaims to be something bigger than music: it is rite of passage, the insistence upon submission into rhythm by the listener. The title is reminiscent of surrealism of Alice in Wonderland, but here, Erotika Dabra nips at the picture until it is darker, hungrier eroticism in the sense of ecstasy not as a fantasy escape but as expression of power achieved through the body. Vocals find the way between whisper and cry, between restraint and abandonment, and the production is changing with the industrial borders and gloomy surroundings, avoiding the containment. The reason this track is magnetic is also not only due to its sound, but due to the philosophy on which it is based: Erotika Dabra integrates sound, movement, and identity as a continuous line.

Years of pole dance production in the realm of weaving have created a vision where performance is not the decoration to expression rather the core of it. This sense is magnified in the video planned by the project (choreographed with Ellixir and dancers of TBR Studios), which transforms a single into a collective art object, commemorating underground networks that cannot be erased.

Here too there is politics, namely the demand that queer and non-normative bodies contain their own power, to be neither sanitized nor silenced, but to be cherished for their problematic queer intensity. In a society awash in ending off squares for algorithms, EAT ME / DRINK ME snarls at too-muchness. It asks to be touched not swallowed, to be dwelled in not sped past. Erotika Dabra does not only produce a song, they create a world where sound and flesh converge, where dream melts into reality and risk embellishes the joy. Enter it and you come out transformed, beating, alive.
