Filip Dahl has returned with a new single called “Learning to Breathe Again“, and the timing could not be better. The world is stressful, people are tired, and most of us are one bad day away from Googling “how to relax without moving.” Filip seems to get that, because this track feels like a calm pause that somehow arrived right on schedule.

The song is an instrumental ballad built around his guitar, which has the kind of tone you know instantly belongs to him. It is smooth, steady, and never rushed. Instead of showing off, he lets the notes settle. The whole track has a quiet warmth to it, like someone taking a long breath and telling you to try it too. And honestly, it works. You might walk away feeling slightly more relaxed than you meant to be.

Filip’s story makes the track even more interesting. He started out playing in Norwegian rock bands in the 70s, which already gives him more credibility than most people who say “I play guitar.” From there, he became a respected engineer and opened Brygga Studio, which went on to become a major spot in the 80s and 90s. Then he stepped away for a while, probably to recover from decades of loud amps and life in general.

When he returned in 2016, he did it with the energy of someone who clearly missed the work. Since then, he has released music nonstop, all created by himself from start to finish. His style pulls from the bands that shaped him — Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Kansas, and more — but he never sounds like he is copying anyone. His guitar has its own voice, and you can hear it immediately in this new piece.

Learning to Breathe Again also connects with something he has said many times: music can help people steady themselves, especially during stress, grief, illness, or any kind of emotional weight. This track reflects that idea in a direct way. It is gentle, but it still holds a lot of feeling, the kind that sneaks up on you when you are not paying attention.

Outside of his solo work, Filip also plays in a family band called Transcending Into the Unknown, which includes his brother and his son. Between the three of them, they cover everything from blues rock to prog and even touches of metal. It makes sense. If you can bond with your family, you might as well do it while holding guitars.

“Learning to Breathe Again” is another strong moment in Filip’s steady run of releases. It shows his skill without shouting about it and leaves room for listeners to settle into their own thoughts. If you need three minutes of calm or you want to hear a guitarist who knows exactly what he’s doing, this track is a good place to start. It may even remind you to breathe once in a while, which most of us probably need.
