3 min read

Good music sells itself and this one is gonna do just that, this track has wowed me. There are indeed hidden gems even in the midst of diamonds and this band is one. The song is really refined and thus I will entreat you to give it a good listen and you won’t be disappointed. But first let’s look at the artist. Mark Vennis & Different Place come from the Hampshire town of Petersfield, and their music embodies the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll, blending influences such as The Clash, Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, and Paul Weller into their own distinct sound.

Their most recent single, “Wild Suburban Boy,” is the first single from their upcoming mini-album, “Small Town Vampire,” which will be released in January 2024. The core members of the band are Mark Vennis himself, handling guitar and vocals, Sean Quinn on guitar and percussion, Dave Sweetenham holding down the bass, and Brian Gee providing the heartbeat on drums. Together, they make a unique genre of rock music that invites listeners into their world.

“Wild Suburban Boy” is a punk-infused new wave  of rock with a driving energy. It’s a song about youthful rebellion, yearning for something more than the normal, and breaking free from the confines of suburban life. Where everything is limited, you don’t get to enjoy much as others in other places and hence you yearn to break out and strive for better. The lyrics capture the essence of thinking you know everything, only to realize there’s so much more to learn, as well as the struggle to find one’s place in a world that can feel depressing at times. The song speaks to anyone who has ever fantasized about escaping their normal everyday life  and seeking adventure in the big city. It’s a song for those who refuse to be moved by hypocrisy and lies, instead choosing to embrace punk rock’s DIY ethos and the limitless possibilities of an open mind.

Mark Vennis‘ vocals exude the raw authenticity that defines rock ‘n’ roll at its core. The guitars moves the song forward with a sense of urgency, while the rhythm serves as a solid foundation for the lyrics’ rebellious spirit. “Wild Suburban Boy” carries the torch of rock ‘n’ roll, reminding us that music has the power to ignite our spirits and offer a glimpse of something greater. In a world where conformity often reigns, Mark Vennis & Different Place invite us to embrace our inner wild suburban selves and let rock ‘n’ roll save us.

This single is a preview of what’s to be expected from their upcoming album “Small Town Vampire,” and it leaves us eager to hear more from this band that’s unafraid to speak their truth and rock the world with their music. “Wild Suburban Boy” is available on all platforms starting September 22nd. It’s a reminder that, no matter where you come from, the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll can be a beacon of rebellion and hope. Follow them from the links below and enjoy their good music
