Marcus Christ – “Fuck What You Say” Delivers Raw West Coast Energy You Can’t Ignore

You know hip-hop has been one genre that many will continue to vibe with, so if you are looking for that raw, West Coast energy that doesn’t care about being polite, Marcus Christ just dropped something you need to hear. Hailing from Compton, he released his new single “Fuck What You Say“, and it is a straight-up statement of intent.

Marcus is pretty open about his influences, and you can hear a lot of Jay-Z in his pen. In fact, he starts the track by referencing one of Hov’s classic lines. He isn’t trying to start a beef, though. He says he’s just trying to “wake up” the legends and show that he can hold his own. The main theme here is something a lot of people can relate to: the difference between wanting to be liked and wanting to be respected. Marcus makes it clear he isn’t here for the hugs; he’s here for the credit he’s earned. The flow in here is really intriguing, he rides the beat and gets you keen to hear what he’s saying, whilst you keep nodding to those lofi hip-hop beats. It’s a crazy track that has a smooth energetic delivery.

The backstory on how this was made is actually kind of insane. He recorded this as part of a marathon session at The Room Studios in Hollywood. Get this—he recorded 13 songs in just 6 hours. I can barely finish a sandwich in 6 hours, and this guy did a whole album’s worth of material. He wrote most of it on his phone in about a week, but don’t let the speed fool you. The quality is a massive step up from his older stuff.

The production here by Morte Beatz is top-tier I must say, you get that polished, professional feel that Marcus says his fans might not be used to hearing from him yet. It’s gritty but clean, thanks to some solid engineering by a guy named Gerogii who was mixing the tracks live while Marcus was still in the booth. Do you feel the energy already? Haha it’s crazy trust me.

But here’s the news, this single is part of his bigger project, “The American Pharaoh“, which is all about rising above your circumstances and taking a leadership role. He’s already been building some serious momentum with tracks like “On My Block” and “Get The Haters Back,” but “Fuck What You Say” feels like the turning point.

The funniest part? Marcus is already thinking about the future, but he’s not looking to be the guy jumping around on stage until he’s out of breath. He actually wants to do a hologram tour. He wants to sit in the crowd with a drink and watch a hologram of himself perform in a digital forest full of talking animals. Honestly, that sounds way more fun than a standard rap show.

Well what can I say? Sometimes you need to bite more and not be afraid of the failures and be ready to actually challenge the status quo. And who’s better to boost you than Marcus Christ here, he’s a guy who values his craft and isn’t afraid to admit he’s got a touch of that “Aristotle madness” going on.
