“Kickback” by The Fods & Night Wolf Is the Escape You Need
Sometimes music is a good mood setter and thus I wanna ask are you the type who likes a song that relaxes you after a long week, or do you always need high-energy tracks to keep you pumped up? So have you ever had one of those lazy Sundays where you just want to get in your car, roll the windows down, and drive away without a single care in the world?
Sometimes we all feel that, something bites you, crushes you and all you wanna do is move away and relax yourself so you can calm down. But the thing is, whilst in your car, you need that perfect song that will talk about that exact feeling, and this track I have here titled “Kickback” is the exact track you need in that moment.

This track is a pretty cool collaboration between a group called The Fods and a UK producer named Night Wolf. The way they teamed up is actually a funny story. They didn’t meet in some fancy studio; they just crossed paths during an online chat on XRP Radio. Night Wolf liked their style, asked if he could remix one of their songs, and they threw him the files.
Instead of just twisting a few knobs and calling it a day, Night Wolf completely gutted the original song. He tossed out almost everything except for the raw vocal tracks by Neil “Birch” Birchall and Alan Winn. Then, he rebuilt the entire thing from the ground up on his own terms.
One thing is when you take a look at Night Wolf‘s usual resume, he is known for making pretty dark, heavy music. The guy is a major sound designer out of Luton who has done work for Netflix, Sky, and even the NFL. But for this particular song “Kickback,” he said well let’s ditch our usual way, those moody, dark stuff and let’s create something that’s easy-listening and has a vibe with a bit of a trip-hop punch and he nailed it!
See i love how the song starts, it has this really chilled, laid-back groove that immediately pulls you in and sets a relaxing atmosphere. What makes the track special is the instrumentation he chose to layer over those smooth beats. I love those bright marimba sounds mixed with lovely strings, they really strikes your nerves and gives the whole song a neat indie-pop twist. It feels warm and incredibly light, which pairs perfectly with the hopeful, uplifting lyrics that The Fods originally wrote.
With The Fods, they are usually known for high-energy indie punk driven by loud guitars, so hearing their vocals inside this smooth, trip-hop environment is a really fun contrast. It’s a total blend of different backgrounds and styles coming together, and it actually works beautifully. It is polished, catchy, and has a deep, meaningful feel that makes it easy to imagine hearing it in a movie scene or a sleek commercial.
It is the very first time these two acts have worked together, but since the chemistry is obviously there, they have left the door wide open for more music in the future. Night Wolf recently launched his own independent label, EscaVolt Records, and this fresh release shows he is not afraid to experiment outside of his comfort zone.
If your current playlist is feeling a bit too stressful and you want something that offers an instant state of calm, give this one a listen. It has just enough kick to keep you moving while keeping your stress levels at a total zero.
