Escape The Box – “Dead Ends And Daydreams”: A Metal EP About Life’s Chaos

Life is crazy and not all of us get it the way everyone gets it. Some get it easy, some get it hard, some get it pretty normal but above all of it, I think we can all agree on something about life. If you’ve tried to untangle your headphone wires after shoving them into your pocket, you’d know it’s really a pure psychological warfare, but even that still hurts less than dealing with everyday life, and this is something we all can agree on. No matter how easy, hard or normal life treats you, dealing with it everyday is really difficult. Well UK alternative metal duo Escape The Box brings that kind of unfiltered chaos to their sharp six-track EP, “Dead Ends And Daydreams”(D.E.A.D).

Completely independent and self-produced by vocalist and producer Ziey Kizzy and guitarist and producer Dreadf4ll, this EP was released to build a heavy box to throw all your real-world stress into. I can’t express how much I love the themes the EP explores, first it takes you into loss, then isolation, and feeling trapped by reality, it does all this and then taps you on the shoulder and say hey, it’s okay to accept your vulnerabilities instead of pretending everything is fine, and that’s basically life.

One thing about Escape The Box that fascinates me about their tracks is how it feels like walking into an underground concrete garage where heavy guitar amps and glowing synth towers sit side by side. Their style refuses to stay inside a single genre, blending metalcore aggression, electronic textures, and dark pop hooks into a cohesive, hard-hitting world. Man it’s just too good, and consuming.

At a point in life, you will have to learn to use “Silence”, and this dark, moody atmospheric track welcome listeners with electronic pads and haunting ambient textures that creeps in before a sharp rhythm takes hold. I love how the track takes a bit of time to build the atmosphere before the vocals hit, and how the production keeps things spacious, allowing those clean vocals to carry a heavy weight before dropping into a brooding groove that sets a good foundation for the rest of the EP to follow.

On “Almost”, things gets heated up with immediate, driving guitar work and punchy drum programming. I love how this track balances aggressive edge with catchy melodic phrasing. It’s probably ma favorite on the EP, it’s got that energy, yet allows you to enjoy its infectious energy and it’s haunting vocals. The track turns your head and focuses on the frustration of coming so close to breaking free from a bad spot, only to fall short. This is very painful, especially when you remember the amount of time, energy you put in, only to loose it at the very end. It’s crazy but sometimes that’s life and you have to accept it with silence.

“Grave” comes in with a much darker, heavier punch, to the table. The way the track starts is quite fascinating, at that moment you will think you’re in for some trap kinda song, then it smashes you with heavy angry haunting vocals before getting back to its melodious vocals then going hard again. I love how the track leans into crushing alternative metal territory. Low-end guitar riffs collide with intense, driving percussion whilst the vocals goes back and forth between melodic hooks and aggressive delivery. It’s a track that tackles feeling buried under heavy expectations and pressure whilst trying to navigate this life. It ain’t an easy thing to deal with such pressure, everyone’s looking up to you, your dreams are calling and there you are hoping everything goes well, cos you just can’t fail.

It’s time we get to the other side of the EP, and “Hoodies” takes us there with a more rhythmic, atmospheric vibe, mixing heavy low-end grooves with dark electronic beats. I like the instrumentation here, it has this tense and nocturnal feel to it that just sweeps you away in its atmosphere. The thing is when expectations gets too high and you feeling the pressure from the previous track, you just have to go into a little hiding, get away from the world and wrap yourself up in isolation, enjoy the peace and stay in that quiet moment when the world gets louder.

Now this song “Great”, which is the band’s personal favorite, stands out as a massive centerpiece. You get huge guitar chords and driving electronic beats merging to create an infectious rhythm. The vocals shine here with an unforgettable hook, delivering an honest, sarcastic look at putting on a brave face when your world is falling apart. I mean this is what we all go through right? Sometimes you just have to smile for the camera, in front of the kids and give them hope, but deep down, you know your world is crashing but you gotta be strong, do your best and be great again!

“Cement” says hey, it’s okay, takes things slow whilst closing the EP out with a deeply vulnerable, melodic attitude. In here, stripped-back instrumentation lets clean vocals take center stage over subtle ambient layers. You know that moment where you feeling stuck in a place, not knowing what to do, and feeling like you drowning? This track offers you a quiet, heavy reflection to finish the journey.

Wow, what a journey it’s been, life will always have dead ends, whilst you day dream. It’s an EP that has given us a pure look into how life can turn out, and I can say “Dead Ends And Daydreams” deserve a listen, ’cause it gives you a raw, genuine escape from standard commercial radio noise. It delivers heavy riffs, brilliant electronic textures, and real emotional honesty that will stick with you long after the final track ends. So go ahead, stream “Dead Ends And Daydreams” and find your box for the noise!
