A Heavy Heart and Open Wounds: Highroad No. 28’s “Thistroubledsoul”
Not many artists are able to make music that hits harder and pushes them even beyond their limits than their previous release. Yet we have Highroad No. 28 who are back, and they didn’t come back quietly. This time around they taking us into the dark world, where we all experience that inner chaos, where one has to battle with their emotions for survival yet find the strength to endure.
On this new track “Thistroubledsoul”, it feels like the kind of song you play when you’re fine on the outside but arguing with yourself on the inside. We’ve all been there and even some of us live there. It dark nature doesn’t make it sound like in a dramatic-for-no-reason way. It just says it as it is. Those heavy guitars sit right next to moments that pull back and let the vocals breathe. Andrew JC handles everything here, and you can hear the focus. No distractions. No extra hands. Just one person putting the weight down and walking away slowly. Like you just won a trophy where you told everyone you gonna win.

Now here’s the trick, not only does it heavy guitars lures you in, then sits you in a brooding atmosphere, where those vocals that sound worn in, like they’ve been carried around for a while brings this much emotions and let’s you feel every sh!t you going through. I love the raw edges the track comes with, It makes the song feel lived in instead of staged. The chorus doesn’t beg for attention, it actually earns and let’s you get yourself locked in. You’d think the song might be in a hurry to a place, but no, it doesn’t rush, it restraints and trust the mood and let it consume you, whilst you enjoy every bit of it as it speaks directly to your soul and pierces you. To me it’s confident or stubbornness, maybe both and this makes it unique.
Top news is that, this single is leading us into the upcoming album, “The Will to Endure“, and that makes sense. It builds you up for what to expect and let’s you know it’s gonna be a sweet rollercoaster ride. This track feels like a checkpoint, not a finish line. A pause to admit things aren’t perfect, but you’re still standing.
“Thistroubledsoul” won’t fix your problems. It won’t pretend to. But it might sit next to you while you think about them. And sometimes, that’s enough.
