Dean RÖK’s “Bad Wedding Day”: A Song for Anyone Tired of Pretending

Life is funny in a way that feels like everyone wants the same thing. But I think it ain’t so. Like weddings, everyone expects wedding days to be filled with joy, laughter and happiness. But what of the ‘what ifs’? Can’t anything go wrong? And if such happens, are you sacred of people’s expectations or you just wanna be free from such thoughts? So if you’ve ever wanted to hear a song that sounds like a bar fight between a guitar and a drum kit, Dean RÖK has exactly what you need. This Portuguese rocker just put out a new single called “Bad Wedding Day,” and let me tell you, it is far from a slow dance.

The track is what people call “modern blues,” but don’t let the name fool you. This ain’t your grandpa’s blues. It’s got a heavy, physical groove that feels like it belongs in a dark club where the floors are a little bit sticky. This song will get you dancing like ya ain’t got problems. The way the song starts with those hard rock gritty guitars with a raw kind of energy that makes you want to move before you even understand the lyrics is wholesome. It hits soo hard that, you can’t even sit down, then those vocals wow, you just can’t help it but suck it all in.

Dean RÖK himself is a guy who has spent years touring Europe under different names. He’s clearly seen some stuff, and you can hear those “scars” in his voice. He’s got that soulful, fire-driven vocal style that sounds like he’s lived every word he sings. And this makes the song just stick, then those backing vocals like a choir like, just wanna let you sing along whilst moving and clapping and screaming at the top of your voice. Now that’s entertainment!

The song itself deals with the tension between doing what people expect and just wanting to be free. This is what is killing a lot of us, we wants to fulfill societal expectations than being ourselves. We want to live to please people than doing what makes us happy. It’s a great theme for a track that feels this visceral. I mean it’s not polished or shiny like a pop song on the radio, instead it’s got this dirty, loud, and human feel to it.

See man, it doesn’t matter where you are, either you’re in a crowded bar or just driving home late at night, “Bad Wedding Day” has that perfect nighttime energy. It’s rhythmic and direct, and it doesn’t apologize for being a bit rough around the edges. It’s the second release under the Dean RÖK name, and it really shows he’s found his own power. So if you like music that moves your body and doesn’t mind a little dirt on its boots, give “Bad Wedding Day” a listen. Just maybe don’t play it at an actual wedding unless you want to start some drama.
