Ella Fitzpatrick Revives Classic Swing on “Big Band Reflections”

If you think the era of glitz, glamour, and massive horn sections is dead, Ella Fitzpatrick is here to prove you wrong. Her new album, “Big Band Reflections”, feels like someone took a time machine to a 1940s ballroom, grabbed the best orchestra they could find, and brought them back to 2026.

Ella’s story is pretty cool. She started out singing gospel in Detroit, but now she lives between Sweden and Denmark. You can really hear that mix in her voice—she has that deep American soul, but there’s a polished, classy vibe that feels very Scandinavian. It’s like a warm hug from a singer who definitely knows how to wear a sequined dress. The album is huge, featuring fifteen tracks that make you want to fix a drink and start dancing in your kitchen.

It kicks off with “In The Mood Today“, which is basically a shot of pure energy to get the party started. I love how the track sits you down and have you reminiscing about those moments you’ve been planing, those new spicy stuffs you’ve always planned to try, that always ends up not happening. But today, they are in the mood and you just can’t help how it’s gonna end. It feels like dream come true. Such a beautiful masterpiece of a track, it just lets the night sit cool and let’s emotions ride your sensuals.

Then you have “Dancing In A Dream“, a song that feels exactly like its title—light, airy, and very romantic. “Maybe Fly To The Moon” follows that classic “space-age” jazz vibe we all love, while “Feel Good” is just an uncomplicated, happy track that hits all the right notes. From here you can see the arrangements of the tracks is just perfect. After getting in the mood, everything you felt made you like you were dancing in a dream, then you reached your pinnacle and it felt like you were flying to the moon, the joy, the excitement just makes you feel good.

Things get a bit more personal with “Not Without You” and “What Do You Have To Lose“. Ella uses these tracks to talk about life and relationships, reminding us that even if we make mistakes, they are just part of the “choreography” of living. “Borrowed Time” and “Whirlpool” lean into that brassy, big-band swagger that makes you feel like you’re the main character in a movie.

One of the deepest moments on the record is “Through My Soul”, where you can really hear those gospel roots coming through. “In My Memory” and “Leaning In” are a bit more reflective—perfect for those quiet moments after the party is over and the lights go down.

As we get toward the end, “Face On The Moon” and “No Roam” keep the swing going strong. The album wraps up with “My Way Tonight” and “Dance With My Soul“, leaving you with a feeling of hope. Ella’s message is pretty clear: life keeps changing keys, but you can always find your tune. If you follow the story of the album, then you know now, we have to do things your way, cos in the begining you were in the mood, and the night has to end your way, whilst you dance with my soul. If you deep it, your heart will just be rumbling with love, excitement and wish everyday is like that.

Working with producer Kent B Nyberg, Ella has created something that critics are already losing their minds over. It’s authentic, it’s loud, and it has a lot of heart. If you’re tired of tiny, thin-sounding pop songs and want to hear a full orchestra really go for it, this is the album for you. It’s big, it’s bold, and it’s a lot of fun.
