3 min read

Sometimes in life, you don’t really need everything to go all well, you just need that perfect point or perfect time to strike that move and boom, you have your ideal life. This is what most of us need, and that’s why this duo Carpe Diem, who comes from the beautiful city of Hong Kong, has carved the perfect track for us to maneuver our life to that perfect point on their thought-provoking single “Ne Plus Ultra”. Just the title of the song tells you all you need to know, ‘perfect point’ in Latin. A titled coined to capture your emotions away and deliver you into a world where everything is just perfect, but that’s achievable through our imperfections, making the song a beauty that will resonate deeply with you.

Carpe Diem

Now the lyrics with it’s poetic nature infused with carpe diem’s soulful music instantly kicks you alive and gets you hooked and glued, keeping you interested and ready for more. Well you might be wondering what the band’s about, well consists of Keith, who plays the guitar, and Ada, who lends her enchanting voice to the song, which makes gives the song the soothing vocals you hear. One thing you notice is that, there’s this sense of love surrounding this beautiful craft. The way those layered bass, percussion, and keyboards were infused together gives the listener this magical feel and experience that one would never wanna let go. And that’s not the only surprise here, just guess the name of the studio where the album was recorded, haha man, the studio is named “Yeah” where 4 tracks were beautifully recorded under the title “Ne Plus Ultra”. That’s crazy right, but one thing the album didn’t deviate from is the core nature of the band, even tho the album also reminisce of the transformation they have gone through, but the way they tell their stories through their music remained. Their storytelling is one of the best you would experience, such a magnificent duo. Now to ma comic fans, if you’ve read the this Japanese comic titled Fullmetal Alchemist, then welcome aboard, for it was the inspiration behind the song, reflecting on the notion that ‘everything has a price, but it’s not always money’. As the journey continues to find the perfect tone for beauty, they realized that beauty itself lies within its imperfections, where if one can find these moments and be aware of it, then you can overcome every struggle. Now the moment the play button is released, Ada’s vocals catches you off guard, consumes you and take you on a soothing yet chilling journey that’s aimed at calming the listener’s nerves while transporting them into a world where it pushes them to make the most out of their own flaws and rather perfect them than just waiting to be accepted just the way they are. Another thing that makes the song even more interesting and captivating is the AI-influenced and darkly colored music video that comes with it. Not only does it complement the song, but also shows the listener that there’s a hidden power and meaning beyond what we see. What I love about the song is this gospel vibe it carries, prompting individuals to reflect upon themselves and find those perfect moments even in the amidst of their chaos and problems.

Well “Ne Plus Ultra” by Carpe Diem is an amazing body of work, the beats, the nature of the lyrics, the way it has this ability of getting listeners locked in and ready to enjoy every bit of it makes it an intriguing masterpiece that needs your attention, so in case you haven’t found that song yet, then this is that song you’ve been searching for, so go on then and enjoy every bit of it and get consumed, and cherish those flaws and embrace them rather than trying to be a perfectionist, for that perfection lies in those flaws.
