Ethan Doyle’s “God Knows” Hits Where It Hurts

Life has a way of showing everyone their flaws or something that just makes them think this is them. Sometimes the very thing everyone does and it succeeds, you only step in and it fails. And this sometimes makes you feel like your worst habits were a magnet for trouble. Well I have a song from Ethan Doyle. And his new song might hit a little close to home if you feel like that.

The artist from Bath, UK, just dropped “God Knows,” and I just say this is him finally showing the world what a talent he is after years of hiding behind different names, he finally used his real name. So what’s do we take from it? I think the song title does justice to it, in the sense that he’s saying God knows why all those years he kept hiding and maybe it’s finally time for him to shine. And I kinda agree with it form this perspective, cos the song is exactly what it is.

What makes Ethan stands out is that, he is a self-taught producer who has been messing around with music for seven years. He recorded this whole thing in his bedroom using equipment he rented from his university because he doesn’t own any high-tech gear himself. Honestly, you can tell. But I don’t mean that in a bad way. It has this rough, “bumps and bruises” feel that makes it sound a lot more real than the shiny, perfect stuff you usually hear.

The song is about addiction and the personal struggles he’s dealt with, and I love how he doesn’t make it sound like someone giving you life advice in a sitting. Life is crazy and sometimes we can’t do anything about it. He wants us to know that it’s okay to struggle and it’s okay to be in addiction, but never let that define your whole existence. Make efforts and break free from it. The song is actually very relaxing. He managed to take a heavy topic and set it to a catchy piano melody that you could easily listen to while you’re working or just hanging out. He calls it “dual-focused” music—something that is deep enough to make you think but chill enough to study to.

The core of the track is a piano progression that Ethan spent a lot of time experimenting with. The drums and synths sort of bounce off the notes in a way that feels like they’re having a conversation. One of the best lines in the song is, “Got a habit that’s a magnet to the shadows in my vein.” It’s a dark thought, but it’s written in a way that anyone who has ever struggled with a bad habit can understand.

Ethan draws a lot of inspiration from artists like Quadeca and Mid-Air Thief, so he likes to twist things around and keep you guessing with his arrangements. Even though he’s had some mild success under other names, he’s really trying to build a local scene in Bath this year. He’s planning on dropping a new single every month throughout 2026, so he is definitely keeping himself busy. “God Knows” is a solid, honest start to this new chapter. It’s comforting, a little bit sad, and very human.
