4 min read

Sometimes, I wonder how people are able to create music with just sounds and musical elements that are able to pierce through the listener’s heart and connects with their soul and leave a lasting impression on them. Haha crazy right, well, I have got this vibrant and eclectic jazz band Exploding Pig. The band from Austria, have released their unique sound album dubbed “Jazz Futura” or “Jazz meets 70’s music.” And my goodness this is probably one of the best instrumentals album I have listened to and guys, nothing beats this one. The band which consist of accomplished musicians, Luis Bonilla on trombone, Fabio Schurischuster on guitar, Albrecht Klinger on bass guitar, and Bernhard Wimmer on drums, Exploding Pig dives into a genre-defying exploration influenced by jazz, hip-hop, psychedelic lounge elements, and lo-fi beats.

What did I tell you guys about the lockdowns? Yea it really did us good musically and this hand was birthed out of it. Now the inspiration this band carries ranges from American pop culture and their charismatic mascot, Ebɛr. The band tho has this feel-good vibe, which really demonstrates their versatility and how they capture listeners’ hearts with their music. What’s beautiful about the band even more is how every member brings in their own unique style and yet they able to complement each other so well to create melodies that gives listeners orgasmic experience. Now Exploding Pig’s recent album, “Jazz Futura,” just portrays the band’s commitment to pushing musical boundaries. The album is filled with genre-mix sounds that will leave you wowed and wanting for more. Jazz Futura is a 20 soundtrack album with every track having a unique and distinct feel with it creativity.

The first track Trentin Quarantino has this calm nature beats with this bass drums blending so well with that vibrant trombone and trumpet tones, and has this very low haunting-like vocals that flashes through briefly, creating a relaxing listening experience to the listener. Man it gives off this live band vibes like, sit, relax and enjoy. It’s crazy how just sounds could create music that resonates with it’s listeners.

Another track on the album that is fire is “Licor de Nacho”. This track tho, hahaha, my goodness has this up tempo and carries this party like vibes that I like a lot. With the way the drums kicks in hard and trombones taking the centre stage is wholesome, those occasional crow cheer makes this track awesome. But what’s unique about this track is, it keeps you glued and entertained, it’s like all the other instruments grows in, blends in with the sound and takes the whole track to an even more enjoyable heights.

There’s this track titled 6 Inch Slippers. See you don’t wanna go there, the track has this hip-hop and reggae vibes. Like those two genres mixed together playing at the same time, then other musical elements growing in and then shutting down completely and rises again with a long pitch trombone tone, then the song picks itself together again before coming to and end. That bass guitar is crazy and I love it, probably ma favorite on the album.

See I could talk about the album whole day, but I want you to experience this feel-good vibe in the album. Another wholesome track on the album is Britney Is Locked Up Now, hahaha, see this track starts like how this artist Tatiana does it. An acoustic esque track that infuses some pulsating reggae esque beats but different, with those trumpets and guitars taking centre stage with the drums. Man Exploding Pig really nailed this album, it’s beautiful, unique and adventurous. You feel the jungle vibes, coupled grooves, rock and everything, man the album is super good and well crafted.

In a music world where everyone almost is doing the same thing, Exploding Pig brings in fresh breath and unique sounds that resonates with the listener. I don’t know, but check this track “Batman on Acid” and thank me later, shh 🤫 no spoilers here. So go ahead and give this album Jazz Futura a listen, and trust me there’s a soundtrack waiting for you there which might end up on your favorite playlist. ENJOY!
