LETTING GO AND MOVING FORWARD WITH EDDIE COHN’S “WAVE GOODBYE”
4 min readSometimes when you keep holding onto something, the more it keeps hurting you. So sometimes you’ve to let go and accept your fate, people will come and go, friendships will be lost, relationships will go but what won’t go away is your identity. So if you can’t identify yourself and your purpose then you need to cling onto that than friendships and relationships. It’s painful to let go off people but sometimes it’s the best decision, you can’t force people to stay and sometimes too you realize when you’re the problem, just walk away and let people be at peace. Now I’ve got this track here from ma man Eddie Cohn titled, “Wave Goodbye.” A song that infuses elements of rock and grunge, blended with raw emotions and and lyrics that are introspective. What’s beautiful about this track is, it comes out as part of a series of releases slated for 2024, and it beautifully showcases Cohn’s ability to merge different musical styles while maintaining a distinctive sound that is authentic and enjoyable.
The song was crafted by Eddie Cohn as the lead, then had Brett Farkas on electric guitars, with Dan Lutz on bass guitar, along with Jake Reed on drums and percussion, whilst Phil Peterson smashes the cello with Kevin Penner doing the Mixing and Mastering of the track, together they have created a masterpiece that just sweeps you away and let’s you immerse yourself in it’s sweet melodic atmosphere. The moment you start listening to the song, you realize how epic it is, then you begin to ask who and what inspired Eddie to craft this amazing piece. Well he draws his inspiration from a diverse range of musical influences, particularly the grunge era of the 90s and 80s from bands like INXS and Men at Work. Not only did he stop there , but also got some influences from artists like Vedder and Alice in Chains is palpable. So when you listen to the track you realize how you get to feel such influences throughout the song, making the song feel nostalgic yet very modern with his own unique creativity.
Now this song “Wave Goodbye” which was produced by Eddie Cohn himself, and also wrote the lyrics talks about letting go and accepting your fate while putting effort in making yourself better. The song starts beautifully with some melodic vocals which soothes your ears and immediately transitions you into the intricate instrumentation which consumes you and gets you hooked and glued for what’s to come. And just when you’re deep in its magic, those driving electric guitars of Brett Farkas begins to hit you hard with grounding bass lines of Dan Lutz, then you begin to get intrigued with those rhythmic precision of Jake Reed’s drums. While Phil Peterson’s cello adds a layer of depth and emotions to the song’s feel. With those beautiful mastering, the song is able to maintain it’s raw energy and feel, making listener experience a feeling that connects them to the song deeply. The lyrics of the song the goes on to lay emphasis on themes detachment and self-realization. Sometimes, you in love and therefore you don’t even realize how much it’s draining you, then the moment you come to realization and let go off that burden, you begin to feel yourself again. Then as the song progresses you hear lines like “you know it goes around, round it comes around,” hinting on the cyclical nature of relationships and personal growth. Then the chorus with its repetitive refrain of “bye bye bye bye bye,” creates a sense of conclusion and acceptance. Yes it’s difficult and painful to sometimes let go off certain things, but then are you gonna let them keep draining you? Are you gonna let them keep hating yourself? Are you gonna settle for less? Definitely not, goodbyes is indeed sad, but sometimes they the antidote to your own progress. So never let it be had to say goodbye when you ought to. This is how you create music to strike the soul of the listener with a deep message they can relate to, while serving them beautiful melodic beats to enjoy.
Well Eddie Cohn’s “Wave Goodbye” is just a masterpiece of creativity and innovation. The way he infused those elements of sound together and crafted beats that speaks his message and yet added magical vocals to lifts the songs emotional scale with deep lyrics, I say it’s a 10/10 project that deserves your attention.
