MARTYN SCOTT’S “TURN”: A TIMELESS MUSICAL JOURNEY THROUGH CONNECTION AND REFLECTION
4 min readOh it doesn’t get better than to start the new year with actual bangers and good music from last year haha. See I’ve got Martyn Scott, a singer-songwriter with a penchant for retro indie who has this vibrant melodies of musical influences, including 60s pop, jazz guitar legends, and romantic classical composers. Oh wait wait I can see you’re interested already, well his new single, “Turn,” is a song that you don’t wanna miss. The song is described as a “long-lost relic from an alternate-universe version of the 60s where Jeff Lynne produced Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.” Haha now you see why I said you don’t wanna miss this one, yes. Well now let’s see something about Martyn Scott.
Martyn Scott who has his background from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, started his musical journey during his days of work at the men’s clubs at the age of 17, playing Rock ‘n’ Roll. The fascinating thing is that, throughout the years, he toured the country with various bands and even played a supporting role to The Bootleg Beatles at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. Martyn who’s skilled multi-instrumentalist, does it all haha. See he writes, sings, and performs everything on his recordings. Now tell me that’s not talent right there, so you just know you’re in for a good treat now. Right right, Martyn has influences by iconic acts like The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Oasis, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, and 90s Brit Pop, and the beauty of this is that, this single Turn has all those Influences in it and makes the song a beautiful track you can’t skip.
I always said that the lockdown really did us good musically, cos man the bangers and good songs that came during that period is awesome and nothing beats it. Those periods really created an avenue for people to explore their creative brain and wow Martyn made the most of it. He wrote, recorded, and self-released his debut album, “Maybe Just Maybe,” as an independent solo artist haha see don’t forget to check that album out, specifically being a debut and it being released in during those lockdowns. That album is everything a good album should be.
You know what sets Martyn Scott’s apart from other music acts? Haha his beautiful approach to songwriting. His pens down lyrics that really prioritize the strength of the song itself. The way he lay emphasis on how a song should be able to stand on its own with just an acoustic guitar is something out of this world. If a song cannot hold its ground in its simplest form, it may fall short when everything comes in with production and omg, you dig?? Haha. See the way he’s committed to this narrative makes his songs a must listen and one that resonates with us all.
The song “Turn” is a beautiful song that talks about the complex nature of human connection and the ceaseless passage of time. As the song goes on one could hear the repetition of “turn to me” which lay emphasis on how we long for understanding regardless of the complexities of our relationships. As time goes on we want assure our personal person that whatever that may happen, we will be right there for them. We will be a pillar to them even tho we may have our differences. The lyrics paints a picture of revelation of time past and the present asking listeners to enjoy today and be the best they can to people, love ones and everyone.
