OpCritical – “USA” Is a Loud Wake-Up Call
News are flying everywhere and it’s not been an easy thing, so if you’ve been watching the news lately and feeling like you’re losing your mind, you aren’t the only one. The world feels a bit upside down right now, and the band OpCritical is making sure we don’t just sit there and take it. They just dropped their second single, “USA,” on March 20th, and it is a loud, messy, and totally necessary wake-up call.
The band itself is kind of a mystery. They say the members don’t matter, only the message does. I kind of love that. It’s not about some rock star’s ego; it’s about what’s happening in our own backyards. Their first song, “Not Alone,” already blew up on YouTube, and “USA” is looking like it’s going to do the same.
The track is a wild mix of styles. It’s got a punk heart, but then it throws in some rock, grunge, and even trap beats. The way the song starts is really intriguing, you’re in a rock melody waiting and boom you’re surprised with trap beat that just sweeps you away. The coolest part is this female voice singing an Arabic melody right under a punk shout to “do it right now.” It shouldn’t work on paper, but it sounds amazing. It feels like the musical version of a protest in a big, crowded city. I gotta say it’s probably the best song I’ve heard this week, those mix of styles does it for me.
The lyrics really hit home for me. They talk about how “black is white” and “up is down” lately. It captures that “Orwellian” feeling where everything we see feels like a disgrace. But even though the song points out the insanity, it isn’t just a downer. It’s actually pretty hopeful. It keeps telling us to “rise up” and “act up” so we can find our way back to being decent humans again.
The music video is just as intense. It’s full of graphics and slogans that fly at you like a fever dream. It’s meant to show the “Demogorgon” we’re all fighting against. Whether you want to pack your bags and leave the country or stay and fight, this song gives you a reason to at least wake up and pay attention.
OpCritical says they plan to keep releasing songs until the danger is gone. At the rate things are going, they’re going to be very busy. If you need a soundtrack for your frustration, this is it. It’s bold, it’s a bit scorchingly honest, and it’s a great reminder that we’re all in this together.
