Radical Man – “Power Systems” Reinvents Electronic Music

Music is crazy sometimes and because of this sometimes we do get tired of music following same pattern. So if you’re tired of electronic music that follows the same old “build up and drop” routine, you should probably check out what’s happening in Western Colorado. There is a project out there called Radical Man that is doing things a bit differently. His new single, “Power Systems,” just dropped, and it feels more like a piece of moving architecture than a typical dance track.

Radical Man is all about the fight between order and total chaos. When you first hit play on “Power Systems,” it starts off with a very rigid, steady rhythm. It feels solid, like a machine hum. But as the song moves along, things start to get weird in a really cool way. Instead of giving you a big explosive moment, the track just starts to fall apart and put itself back together again.

The rhythm is the main star here. Radical Man treats it like the bones of a building, but then he starts messing with the foundation. You get these off-kilter little melodies that sneak in when you aren’t expecting them. It’s got a very “leftfield” vibe, kind of like the old-school IDM stuff but with a modern, gritty edge.

What I find funny is how the song almost teases you. You keep waiting for it to resolve or turn into a normal pop song, but it just keeps mutating. It’s a lot of “controlled friction,” which is basically a fancy way of saying it sounds like a very smart computer having a bit of a breakdown. It’s repetitive, but never boring, because the patterns are always shifting just enough to keep you on your toes, especially when it’s about to end, you get very glued and interested to an extent you wished it never ended.

It’s definitely not the kind of music you’d play at a wedding, unless your family is really into experimental glitch. But if you like to put on headphones and just get lost in a weird, shifting beat, this is a perfect pick. It’s smart, it’s a little bit tense, and it’s a great example of what happens when you let a rhythm just do its own thing.

Power Systems” is streaming now, and it’s a solid introduction to a project that clearly isn’t interested in playing by the rules. If you’re into music that feels a little bit dangerous and very experimental, give it a go. Enjoy More From Radical Man here;
