Rene Immortal Turns Life Into Music on “Immortal to Mortal” EP

Rene Immortal’s new EP, “Immortal to Mortal“, feels like the kind of project someone makes when they’re tired of shallow music and decide, “Fine, I’ll do it myself.” And honestly, he did a pretty good job. The EP mixes African rhythms, hip hop roots, and modern touches in a way that feels fresh without trying too hard. It’s confident, but not loud about it.

Rene Immortal comes from Douala, Cameroon, but his story stretches across The Gambia and South Africa too. You can hear pieces of that journey in the music. The themes are simple but strong—identity, family, struggle, and the whole “growing up and figuring life out” thing. The EP dropped on October 1st, 2025, but it already sounds like something with staying power.

The project feels personal. Rene didn’t just make songs; he made something that reflects where he’s been and where he’s heading. Influences like Fela Kuti and Wizkid pop up here and there, but Rene still sounds like himself. And thankfully, he doesn’t try to force anything. No pretending. No over-polished vibes. Just honest work.

One cool thing is how many different hands helped shape the EP. Producers, engineers, and artists from across Africa added their own ideas. You can tell it wasn’t a “sit alone in a room and click buttons” kind of process. There are live drums, horns, and chants mixed with hip hop elements. Imagine traditional energy shaking hands with modern production. It works.

The recording took place in Heptic Studios in Cameroon, which seems to have helped give the music a grounded feel. There’s something about creating at home that hits different, and Rene leans into that. The standout theme across the EP is pride—pride in African identity, pride in resilience, pride in the stories that shaped him. Tracks like “Zealous Africans” hit with strength, while “Melanin Queens” feels like a warm thank-you letter to Black women everywhere. Even the instrumental and acapella versions show he isn’t scared to let the music breathe.

Rene Immortal has already been performing in Douala and Yaoundé, and more shows are coming. From the sound of it, he wants each performance to feel like a whole experience—music, visuals, and storytelling. With this EP, he’s laying the foundation for something bigger.

My favorite part of his quotes is how straightforward he is. One moment he talks about culture and legacy, and the next he drops a line like, “Our stories don’t die—they live through the art we create.” Simple, but it sticks. “Immortal to Mortal” isn’t just a project to stream once and forget. It’s a body of work that carries weight without getting heavy. It’s rooted in Africa but reaches outward. And most importantly, it feels real.

If Rene Immortal’s goal was to make something meaningful, he definitely succeeded. And if this is the starting point for what he’s building, then he’s got a long future ahead. A good one too—unless he suddenly decides to become a chef or something. But hey, based on this EP, he should probably stick to music.
