3 min read

Creating an EP that has weight with each tracking talking about distinctive subjects is freaking amazing and no one does it better than the man from Essex, UK, singer-songwriter S.J Denney. He started this music thingy in his childhood and has since then been polishing his craft to this day and the results?? An EP titled “The Trouble With Me” Lemme tell you a secret, did you know Denney self learned the acoustic guitar?? Oh oh you surprised haha yes, that’s freaking amazing to do that in your childhood. So you should know you’re in for a special treat on this EP. I can’t tell you how much you shouldn’t miss any song on this album, but I can tell you that enjoy every bit of it, cos this is just the begining.

Opening the EP to a journey that gets listeners glued to it is “Let’s See Where This Goes”. This particular song is one that everyone can relate to, it dives into a moment of being unsure of what to do. With hopes and desires, your feelings are mixed and at see. The lyrics open our eyes on uncertainties and willingness to go ahead with those burning desires within and with the hope of achieving your target, knowing very well all can be lost and all can be won. This like I told earlier is something we all face in life, It’s a beautiful track that goes deep authenticity and pretense. The amazing touch that this song has again is Denney’s vocals, man his voice is rich like damn rich and the way he delivers it on the beats are so marvelous, making the song a must listen on the EP. You can’t skip it, it’s an epitome of beauty this one.

The next track after this is the beautiful melody “Trying to Be Someone”. This tracks takes the whole show onto another level, it’s an autobiographical piece that was written years ago and now bring brought to life by Denney’s creativity adding horns and an erhu.

Next on the EP id “Tread Carefully,” this track takes listeners on a high tempo, coupled with vibes from the Beatles, The Smiths, the Byrds, Supertramp and Bruce Springsteen. This should tell you how crazy of a track it will be, had a blast enjoying this masterpiece.

The track that closes the EP is “What More CanSay”. This a favorite on the EP so far, it talks about how a relationship is stuck in a an endless loop filled with emotions that’s not kept within. The lyrics portrays a sense of frustrations coupled with helplessness. It’s like a radio on replay, such relationships are bitter and bad. You voice out, cos of your anger, your reputation may be at stake cos you fear of what you may do but everyday same sh** keeps happening and you can’t help. It’s frustrating and this song captures the scenario very well with it’s deep lyrics. Denney’s pen game is elite here and I must commend him for that. Bravo.

S J Denney’s ‘The Trouble With Me EP’ attest to his talent and bravery in mixing genres and he combines them so well that it leaves the listener in awe, hooked and addicted yearning for more.
