“SANDY BEACHES” BY GARY DRANOW & THE MANIC EMOTIONS :A HEARTFELT VETERAN’S EXPERIENCE POST WAR
3 min readIt’s not an easy journey to return from war and all you are left with is an empty home and loneliness. Gary Dranow and the Manic Emotions are back again with a new one and they called this one “Sandy Beaches”. A song that goes deep into the veteran who returned home from war only to meet a lonely home. Everything is gone and now he has to deal with the scars of the war that’s gonna live with him forever. As we all know Gary Dranow and The Manic Emotions don’t miss and their storytelling are elite and lively.
The band, which consist of Gary Dranow (Band Leader), Jason Jones (Drums, Mixing, Mastering, Video Production – Melbourne, Australia), Chris Zoupa (Guitar, Bass, Arrangements), Roman Burda (Blues Harp, Ukrainian Music Director, Agent), Klim Apalkov (Vocals, Mixing, Mastering, Translation, Lyrics – Ukraine), and Mykhailo Kapustei (Translation), brings together a fusion of Alt Rock to Hard Rock, with influences ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Pearl Jam.
Now in “Sandy Beaches”, the band tells an emotional story of a war veteran who returned from war only to meet an empty home. The song captures the negative impact wars have on these soldiers. The haunting memories that they have to deal with, the loneliness that kills them, the moment they drop from the ship, it’s just the Sandy Beaches they see. No one to find solitude from, no one to be there for them, the battles they have to face with their own memories from the war. The scars they got from the war all piercing their soul and leaving them despair. This is the narrative the song projects and sometimes they are not the only ones affected, sometimes the war even hit us at home and everything is gone, innocent souls gone, families lost, no place to call home again and no future. The lyrics of the song is everything, it’s paints a clear picture of loneliness, especially with the lines “watching the ships go by on LA sandy beaches”.
The chorus, “I am a lonely man, overwhelmed with scars, back from the war that we never won,” screams of the pain and wish of had I known, laying emphasis of the struggles of pains ajd scars that many of these veterans have to deal with after returning from war. Man it’s ain’t easy and the track pictures it perfectly. Gary and his team really did magic on this one and I can stress enough how good of song and creativity this is. The lyrics, deliver and storytelling are top notch and creates scenes that puts the listener in the emotions of the veteran soldier, to have a feel of what they go through and to resonate with it. This is a must listen song especially in these time of crisis the world is going through. Say no to war and let’s fight for change.
One may ask but it’s a post war song so why that title hahaha, the title “Sandy Beaches” takes on a both side the coin with dual importance, representing both the physical location where the veteran finds himself and the scars of the emotions that lingers in his memories, just imagine sandy beaches, empty and lonely. “Sandy Beaches” is not just any song, but rather a deep reflection on the aftermath of war experienced by the veteran that we often overlook. The lyrics, beats, vocals and delivery make this a solid 10/10 song. So why don’t you go ahead and give this masterpiece a maad listen and have a feel of this emotional journey.
