You know that moment in life where you just wanna lay down and never wake up again and you just wanna Self destruct and call it even. Like you don’t even wanna live again and you feel joy thinking it, so imagine how one could be emotionally drained to even think of such thing. My goodness but this song though, titled “Self Destruct” by The Trusted. Wow I’m dumbfounded, how can someone create music that is soo electrifying, soothing and fucking awesome, you don’t get a perfect music but this one is beyond perfect, cos the moment you hit on that plat button there’s no going back. See this three-minute punk rock track is not just a song but a visceral experience, the way the song binds together dynamic rhythms with a singalong chorus just gets you hooked and glued to it and transports you into an atmosphere of contemplation.
Now this track Self Destruct starts with an alarm esque element that sound like a caution when a machine is about to self destruct then boom you’re hit with its explosive energy, which catches your attention along with the opening lines “oh my God, you woke up dead and someone turned the lights out.” Then the song usher you into a moment of pure punk rock atmosphere filled with energized guitar riffs and rapid drums that just makes you wanna dance and feel good about the song’s message. Haha it’s like the song beats makes you feel good about self destruction and I love the way the chorus are just sing-along and makes you feel the energy and vibe in the song. Then as the song progresses, the lyrics, penned by lead vocalist Tom Cunningham, touches on themes of chaos and self-sabotage. The lyrics then lay emphasis on a mind spiraling out of control. With lines like “I wanna self destruct, I know I like it” and “my mind is spinning but I don’t wanna fight about it” hinting at the joy and happiness of accepting once fate, while capturing the listener’s imagination and emotions. The song is very addictive and very well balanced, it’s heavenly and feels very orgasmic in the ears which makes you not wanna stop listening to. You may be wondering why this song sound soo good, well I guess that’s because of how talented The Trusted are and also it’s a song that pays homage Jack White’s esque classic sounds yet it’s rich with the band’s unique pop flair. To me this is a song that won’t let you play it once, and that’s what you should know, and I fucking love it. The song hints at those moments in life where it’s just over and you can’t find anyway out again, you’re drained, your energy is gone and you’ve already given up and don’t wanna continue to live in pain so you just wanna let it all go and move on. It’s a song that talks about the emotional turmoil and feeling of destruction cos your mission have come to an end, and it’s also a song that hints at someone who’s lost control over their emotions and life and they can’t seem to put them back in line so they just wanna give up, but in all those beats gives you joy and a glimpse of hope.
Well “Self Destruct” is more than just a song, it’s a song that goes on to show how talented and dedicated The Trusted is to their craft. It also signifies the growth and how the band has evolved since their debut. I love how the song goes to the extremes of human experience with a raw and honest approach. The depth of the lyrics, the beats and with a top notch delivery to match the song’s intensity, I can boldly say this is a solid 10/10 masterpiece.
