Soulfire at First Take: The All’s Eye Lights Up ‘Saturday Sessions’
2 min read
The All’s Eye brings something extraordinary through their two-track EP ‘Saturday Sessions’ which successfully exhibits the enchantment of live improvisation alongside their strong musical connection. Ari Joshua’s guitar wizardry combines with Ben Atkind’s tight drumming and Kris Yunker’s soulful organ work to create a raw, real release which captures the music in-the-moment. The recording process was completed in a single take at Barbershop Studios during Emmy-winning producer Matt Rifino’s ‘Saturday Sessions’ series which captures the unique combination of musical connection and shared energy that manifests as warmth and grit. The recording represents both a musical and performative masterpiece preserved on tape and film.

The track “Gramama” opens with its gospel-infused electric bluegrass rhythm which captures your attention instantly. Joshua penned this track as a heartfelt tribute to his late grandmother. The emotional depth emerges through both the lyrics and the soulful guitar phrasing together with the rhythm’s gentle yet confident sway. Each musical note demonstrates deep respect. The song “Say What You Wanna Say” provides an entirely different atmosphere. This track was first composed for another session but now features an intense mix of psychedelic rock elements and jazz-inspired breaks. Atkind and Yunker allow the track to expand and transform with colorful bursts. The track demonstrates its boldness by taking risks that create a distinct edge which stands in beautiful contrast to the warm foundation established by “Gramama”.
The anticipation builds because even better things are yet to come. Ari Joshua plans to work with legendary musicians John Medeski and Billy Martin while Atkind and Yunker maintain active tours for their notable projects Bearly Dead, Elephant Proof, and Club d’Elf. The All’s Eye marked their new release through live performances on April 11 at Umbra in Brooklyn and April 12 at Park City Music Hall in Bridgeport. These musicians remain extremely popular with 18 performances scheduled for their various projects throughout April. Listening to the EP or experiencing the performances live reveals the essence of ‘Saturday Sessions’ as more than just music because it showcases authentic live performance dynamics created by mutual trust among musicians and the spontaneous direction of their performances.
