TELLING SECRETS BREAKS NEW GROUND WITH THEIR LATEST SINGLE “FALL BEHIND”

There’s always new music everyday that hits the heart with it raw emotions and resilience that makes it difficult to ignore and today we’ve got Telling Secrets who has burst onto the music scene with their latest single, “Fall Behind,” a track that’s set to be a major step forward for the band. Sole architect Vik Kovacs founded Telling Secrets during the pandemic of 2021. Their music is a blend of guitars, vocals, and synths. “Fall Behind” follows in this tradition and further enriches their modern rock sound with an emo twist. “Fall Behind” was written even before Telling Secrets became a reality. It has undergone various demo stages and re-recordings before reaching its final form today. Kovacs himself considers it one of his most significant lyrical works and that should give you a glimpse of what you’re a about to experience.
Kovacs, a somewhat nomadic musician, was born in Budapest, Hungary, and grew up in the UK, moving between London, Surrey, Manchester, and later traveling to Los Angeles. Experiencing different cultures and a reluctance to identify with one place, adds depth and richness to Telling Secrets’ music. Kovacs’s latest songs revolve around change and his own experiences of moving halfway across the world. Kovacs’s musical roots lie in technically challenging guitar solos, with Led Zeppelin’s ‘IV’ and ‘Dying Is Your Latest Fashion’ by Escape the Fate as early influences. Over the years, he has evolved into a songwriter, vocalist, and music producer. Bringing Telling Secrets to life has been a long-held dream for Kovacs.
While studying guitar performance at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, Kovacs struggled to find band members who could bring his vision to life. It was only when he formed an online friendship with Matt McAndrew (Rain City Drive and runner-up of The Voice 2014) that Kovacs began his transformation into a vocalist.
The lyrics of Fall behind tells an interesting story, the opening lines “My vision is clouded, I can’t seem to see but I’ll keep on going, one day I’ll be free” tells how much challenging the journey is, but there’s a little hope that we will be free with determination. Moving on the lyrics further tells how obsession can consume us and how we’ve to admit to our past mistakes, you can feel those emotional turmoil in the singers voice. The song goes ahead and talks about the sacrifices sometimes we make even if it means loosing ourself in the process so we can see others fly but at what cost?
The chorus speaks about how we all yearn to have a new beginning, a fresh start after we’ve fallen behind and the desire to be close to that special someone and how we can erase our dark past, the mess we created and move on together but this time without creating those mess again. The song is full of emotions that hits you hard with life experiences. It paints a clear picture of the internal struggles we face with secrets buried within with little hope that things will improve. It’s life’s lessons but that doesn’t mean we should give up. Keep fighting cos the past is the past, it’s memories now, seek for forgiveness and look forward to what’s ahead and make the best out of it.
An interesting thing here, “Fall Behind” won first place in the 2023 Songwriting Contest by Indie International Songwriting Network and reached the Semi-Finals of both the UK Songwriting Contest and International Songwriting Contest in 2022. In February 2023, Kovacs won the Petofi Rádio single award offered by the national Hungarian radio station. Telling Secrets has been featured on Amazon Music’s ‘Best New Bands’ playlist, Music-News, BBC Radio 1 Introducing Rock, Digital Tour Bus, and HammerWorld, among others, in both the UK and the US.
“Fall Behind” will be part of their new full-length EP, set to release in early 2024. The EP will feature a music video in collaboration with Industrial Films for their track “Full Moon.” Vocal engineering for selected tracks will be handled by Rachel Blum (known for her work with Christina Aguilera, Hozier, and SZA). Telling Secrets is determined to raise the bar in the modern rock genre.
