The Last Little Christmas Tree by Fons & the Chargers — A Holiday Hug in Song Form

Fons & the Chargers return with a Christmas track that feels like a warm mug of cocoa on a cold day. “The Last Little Christmas Tree” is a sweet, gentle story told with the honesty of someone who actually means every word, which makes sense since Fons wrote it for his newborn son, Guus. Nothing says fatherhood like turning a broken Christmas tree into a life lesson.

The song follows the tale of the tree nobody wants because of a broken branch. Everyone walks right past it, probably on their way to grab the biggest, loudest tree in the lot. But one child sees it, brings it home, and gives it the makeover of a lifetime. Suddenly this “last pick” becomes the star of the room. It’s a simple message, but it lands with heart: love makes things shine, even the imperfect stuff.

The track was recorded on Texel Island, which already sounds like the perfect place to make Christmas music—peaceful, calm, and probably full of snacks. Fons mixed handwritten lyrics with AI-assisted production, then edited everything by hand. It’s like using a power tool but still sanding the edges yourself. The result is clean, warm, and full of sincerity.

Fons Slieker, the man behind the project, lives in Utrecht with his wife Leandra and baby Guus. By day he trains as an oral maxillofacial surgeon, which is a long phrase that basically means he’s very smart. By night, though, he switches to music, painting, and whatever else his creative brain wants to do. His musical influences include classic crooner legends like Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and the modern Christmas king himself, Michael Bublé. You can hear that old-school charm in this track, but it still feels fresh.

The chorus is catchy in that “oops, now it’s stuck in my head all week” way, which is exactly what you want from a holiday song. It has the feel-good energy that makes you picture a living room glowing with lights and people trying to pretend they didn’t eat all the cookies.

What makes this release stand out is its honesty. It isn’t trying to reinvent Christmas. It just tells a story with heart, and that’s enough. Fons wrote the song to remind his son that even imperfect things can shine if they’re loved, and he carries that message through every part of the track.

There are no performances scheduled yet, but the song carries enough warmth that it almost doesn’t need them. Sometimes a single track can just sit quietly in your playlist and do its job—make you smile. Fons hopes listeners feel the love and family spirit behind the song. And honestly, it’s hard not to. “The Last Little Christmas Tree” feels like the kind of story you hear once and keep in your holiday traditions without even trying.

So if your Christmas playlist needs something heartfelt that doesn’t go overboard, this is your next addition. Just be warned: you may start rooting for every slightly wonky tree you see.
