“THE SILVER” BY CHE ARTHUR: A SOUL-STIRRING BATTLE WITH DEPRESSION
3 min readDepression is something you may laugh about it if you haven’t experienced one before, but that shii can break you down and end you up in a place you don’t wanna be. But when it grows deep, it becomes very difficult to battle it and you may even start to loose all hope but if there’s a little of it left you’d love to cling onto it and fight your away out. And this is what Che Arthur did on his latest track titled “The Silver” from his latest album dubbed “For That Which Now Lies Fallow,” an album that marks a touching return to form for the Pink Avalanche guitarist and main songwriter. One may be wondering why The Silver”? And why this album? Well the album is his fourth solo album, and his first since 2010. In 2010 he dropped a banger album, one I would love you to find out, an album that touches on themes of personal struggles, with Arthur confronting issues such as cancer, aging, isolation, and heartbreak through his music. It’s a power packed album, filled with dark, raw emotions and powerful message of hope.
Now this standout track “The Sliver” is an intriguing piece that starts right into action with some roaring and noisy guitar riffs, which immediately captures listeners’ attention and keeps them hooked for what’s to come. The song then goes on to lay emphasis on Che Arthur’s journey through severe depression and his fight to cling to hope. As the song goes on you hear the refrain, “where a sliver of hope remains,” hinting at the determination, resilience and the courage Che Arthur had even when he was consumed by total darkness. He never gave up, never lost hope and kept on fighting, the emotional depth in here is soo soul-stirring and strikes you hard with these haunting and deep memories if you’ve been through such a phase in life while offering you hope to keep going and continue your run. The most intriguing part is how the song consumes you with those guitar riffs and transports you into this atmosphere of somber and yet uplifting. Now that’s how you make music to strike the soul of your listeners. Now this just one track, imagine the rest of the album and the remaining tracks. Man this song really goes on to show Che Arthur’s ability to turn a personal struggle and experience into a relatable and inspiring piece of music which listeners can relate to.
Well for me The Silver from his album “For That Which Now Lies Fallow” which comes off with some darkly melodic post-hardcore music, I think fans who love those genres will feast especially fans of Husker Du, Unwound, Dinosaur Jr, and Jawbox are all gonna appreciate this amazing body work of art. The way Arthur crafted this piece with top notch production mainly by him with assistance from Brian Fox and Matt Russell, he was able to maintain those raw, and unpolished feel which took the emotional depth of the song to am even different level. So what you waiting for ? Go ahead and give the song a good listen and have a blast with the album throughout your weekend. ENJOY!! Make sure to check him out on the links below for more;
