3 min read

You know one thing that makes you know this song will be a good listen? Haha it’s when you have an artist who’s soo much endowed with talent and Thomas Elliott Dolby here, who is a solo artist, pianist, composer, and producer, embarked on a musical journey that took over a decade ago and that should tell you, you can have your expectations up🔥🔥. After years in various bands, moving from here and there and helping everyone out Elliott Dolby has dropped his own solo project. Well well the crazy thing is that it’s freaking debut single and that takes you to what I always say about debuts. Haha in this single Dolby explores the complex landscapes of emotions conducted by the piano, memory, visuals, and dreams, with the hope of providing comfort and beauty that resonates with the listener.

Thomas Elliott Dolby’s musical journey took a unique path as he went rogue after playing in bands like “Sissy and the Blisters” and “Lady and the Lost Boys.” Dolby here gets a lot of inspirations from a diverse range of musical influences, including impressionist classical composers like Ravel and Debussy, minimalist artists like Arvo Part, experimental music akin to William Basinski, and renowned film composers such as Thomas Newman and Danny Elfman. That should give you a glimpse of what this single has to offer.

One amazing part of Dolby’s musical journey is his connection with his piano, which he named “Taiga.” He had been in the piano trade for ten years before discovering this special instrument. What makes it even more fascinating is that Taiga was built in 1988, the same year Dolby was born, making the connection between him and the instrument all the more meaningful and beautiful. See what a fellow musician had to say about Dolby’s music: “The highest tier of music that exists. Listen and weep heavenly tears.

You know what after a numerous listen to this debut single, it’s just 🔥🔥”Road to Calluna,” the debut track of Dolby’s single, was recorded at his home in Jasmine Cottage. The violin and viola parts were recorded at Handel Pianos in Sunningdale, Berkshire, by the talented @syjaga and mastered by @jeremychuamusic. Dolby performed, recorded, and mixed the rest of the track himself. “Road to Calluna” describes the emotions and memories of a motorcycle journey through the Scottish Highlands with Dolby’s father. It’s a bittersweet journey that marks both his first and last ride with his father, who has since retired from biking.

Dolby’s commitment to live instrumentation led to extensive piano recordings, with countless takes using various library pianos and microphones. It wasn’t until a serious car crash led to the destruction of his car that he invested in an exquisite and expensive ribbon microphone, which finally brought the desired sound to his music. In the words of Thomas Elliott Dolby, “Music is what emotions sound like, which can often be indescribable but can resonate a particular feeling or memory once thought lost. I’m obsessed with this phenomenon in music.”

“Road To Calluna” shows how dedicated Dolby is, to making music that connects with the soul and take you on a musical journey you’ll never forget.
