OUTERLOOP’S “HURACÁN”: A CRY FOR JUSTICE & RESILIENCE
3 min readIt’s crazy out there but people and countries are really going through a lot and most of these aren’t being said on the news so we creatives have to use our crafts to address them and man I’ve got this beautiful piece on here from Outerloop, a dynamic post-punk rock band, led by the vibrant vocals of Taisha Estrada and guitarist Don Potter, and has been making waves since 2019. They’ve got this mad tune out and oh man it’s crazy and beautiful, they titled this Huracàn. A song that rages cries and woes of the people of Puerto Rico against the government. We all know Outerloop for lively vibrant performances and beautiful songwriting, the band has really made name for themselves, toured regionally, and has made massive waves with their hit single “Just Behave,” which topped the 2023 Wammie for ‘best hard rock/punk song’ at the Washington D.C. area music awards.
In the song “Huracán”, Outerloop showcases their musical prowess and how far they have come, introducing extra layers of guitar and vocal overdubs, and an increase intensity in Taisha Estrada’s double language vocals. The song talks about the the issue of expulsion in Puerto Rico, it sheds light on how the government’s is not listening to the people, not caring and forcing communities to evict their homes for the benefit of developers.
The lyrics talks about how the plea of the people are not being considered by the government hinting at them that they don’t feel their pain, and they have 30 days to evict the place for developers to use. Now this is an issue that happens almost everywhere but it’s really sad, and government officials need to do better. The track kicks off with some slow drums and finally takes a turn and then Taisha’s energetic vocals comes in roaring with rage, you can feel the pain and emotions within her voice, and the way the beats flows with her voice is something intriguing and beautiful.
The dynamics and switches in this track is crazy and makes it even more enjoyable even tho it’s a cry for salvation for the people of Puerto Rico, it also stands as a beautiful track, the lyrics with it’s deep message and delivery makes this song a must listen and trust me you will enjoy it. It’s got this catchy beats with those guitars and vocals man, it’s Soo magical and freaking good. With the band’s fresh faces, Erik Sleight on bass and Marty Reisemberg on drums. The song was was recorded and mixed at Kreeger Studio by Erik Grimm and mastered by Jamal Ruhe of Listen Up Mastering.
