4 min read

You know those moments where words can’t even express your pain, your happiness or your mood, then you chance on the perfect music that says everything you want to or describes your situation perfectly and you’re just left to ponder on it and let it run through your veins and consumes you. Such a song is what this esteemed blues singer Miss Freddye, affectionately known as Pittsburgh’s “Lady of the Blues,” has crafted for us, she called this one “Slippin’ Away”. A song that talks about a beautiful love that is fading away and now all you’re left is longing and wishing, but does your partner even know that everything is falling apart? The pain, the emotional depth through her vocals just makes the song soo intriguing and piercing that you begin to resonate deeply with it.

Now this song “Slippin’ Away,” is a beautiful blues ballad that lay emphasis on love and loss. The song produced by Miss Freddye and recorded at Red Caiman Media in Pittsburgh’s North Hills, is one deep heartfelt masterpiece written by her late friend, Mike Lyzenga, on February 25, 2018. The song beautifully opens with this emotional piano melodies that immediately sets the tone for an atmosphere of contemplation and introspection. Then Miss Freddye’s soothing vocals comes in and sweeps you into this feeling of longing and yearning, with the lyrics laying emphasis on the pain of a love that used to be all nice and beautiful, where you had dreams you shared together, where you couldn’t do away with each other but now everything is just crumbling and you’re left with questions that only them can answer. Heartbroken and confused, you begin to ask why, what might have went wrong? What might have happened and do they even feel what you’re feeling? Do they even realize the sate of the relationship? Or they just see it to be normal because they don’t even care anymore. They don’t treat you like they use to, everything is just falling and you can’t help it but give up, knowing very well you love them but do they? Such an emotional written piece sang beautifully to put us into those feelings and experience we once had. One thing that makes the song an even intriguing piece is the opening lines, man, the moment Miss Freddye’s vocals sets in with lines like “I don’t know where we’re going, I don’t know where we’ve been, it’s just an illusion we’ve seen before, yeah it’s a nightmare coming back for more.” These captures you and let’s you feel the pain of being in such situations. It pans out like that’s not been the first time it has happened but because you loved them and still do, you guys survived but do they see it now? It’s like it’s all coming back to you again, and you’re then broken and consumed by that little interludes which allows you to ponder on the song’s lyrics and leaves you in a state of reflection and decisions. Such a beautiful track that not only consumes you, but also gives you room to decide. Now that’s how you make a track to keep the listeners coming for more, but those beats, wow, and everything wouldn’t have been a beautiful journey without Mike Huston on guitar, Jeff Conner on keys, Greg Sejko on bass, and Bob Dicola on drums, together they have created this magical piece that brings out the emotional content of the track out and perfectly allows Miss Freddye’s vocals to shine.

Well as the song goes on, the chorus with its repetitive refrain “do you feel our love, do you feel our love, do you feel our love slipping away” putting the cherry on the depth of emotions Miss Freddye can convey into her songs while paying tribute to the late Mike Lyzenga. Well Slippin’ Away is a song that not only consumes the listener with emotions but also heals them. The lyrics, beats and the raw vocal delivery just makes everything in here a 10/10 and one that you can’t miss. So why don’t you go ahead and give this song a listen and treat yourself to something good. She’s indeed a joy to listen to. ENJOY!! Make sure to check her out on the links below for more;
