Ping Machines Play Rock Like They Mean It on “Down To The Others”

It’s always a mad max fury with Ping Machines. They are not here to make you all calm and sweet, they don’t make polite rock music. They never have. And their single “Down to the Others,” which was released on August 4th, 2023, comes in with same clothes, loud amps, and zero interest in playing it safe.

As you already know the band comes from Muotathal, Switzerland, which looks calm in photos. Do not be fooled, they’ve been around since 2009, and Ping Machines have been making rough, loud rock that feels built for small clubs, sweaty rooms, and people who nod their heads without realizing they’re doing it. The lineup stays solid. Pat Dollinger hits the drums like they owe him money, I mean he ain’t gonna pay either, Marc Monnin and Fabian Mettler trade guitar parts like two mechanics that grind and push.

Alex Schrutt holds it all together on bass, and then there’s Benissa Schmidig’s vocals cutting through with grit and confidence. With these they’ve crafted a masterpiece that lets you go gaga and blast your speakers, who cares if your landlord kicks you out. You just wanna make em noise and let everyone enjoy good dirty music loud and clear with beers or on your long road trips.

Now this song “Down to the Others” kicks in fast, but steady and does not waste time saying hello. The guitars feel thick and dirty, the good kind of dirty, like a favorite jacket you refuse to wash. Because you fear the color will fade, so you wanna keep it clean without washing, either way people will still know it’s dirty. The groove locks in early and keeps pulling forward.

This is not a song that floats. It stomps, hits you hard and leaves you begging for more like you enjoy that kickback and slap in the boxing ring, and keep asking for more. You can almost picture the band playing it live, all five of them leaning into the beat and daring the crowd to keep up. What I love most is how they give zero Fs, no fancy polishing, just something raw and honest.

I feel the band clearly trusts the song to stand on its own. You can feel the stoner rock weight in there, the blues grit sneaking in, then the punk attitude showing up just to keep things uncomfortable. That mix is what Ping Machines call dirt rock, and the name fits like a glove.

A dirt rock without physical energy? No we don’t do that here, it’s power packed and makes you wanna tap your foot, nod your head, or accidentally knock over a drink. That last one might just be me. Even without overthinking the lyrics, the feeling comes through loud and clear. This is music meant to be felt in the chest, not analyzed on a couch.

Down to the Others” proves that Ping Machines know exactly who they are. They are not here to do things your way, they are here to make you follow their ways, and honesty it clicks. They ain’t trying to sound clever. They are just playing rock music with purpose and fire and sometimes that’s all you need. So if you like your rock loud, raw, and very much alive, this track earns its place on your playlist. Just maybe warn your neighbors first.
