Less Screams It All Out on “Hellya!”

Less was born in Naples, Italy, in 2001. She grew up watching her parents work with leather, which taught her a lot about being tough. When she was eleven, her family moved to a new town and she lost her grandmother, which really shook things up. Around that same time, she picked up a guitar and realized she could sing. It started as a hobby, but it quickly became her therapy, especially when things got tense at home after she came out to her family.
Now this song “Hellya” came from a dark place. But there’s something unique in the way it starts, smoothly and calm. It’s like the calm before the storm, and this makes it an interesting piece. It prepares the listener to immerse themselves into a period of calmness and finally explode. Such a beautiful masterpiece. Thing is Less says she was feeling totally numb and bored with life. She felt trapped in a country where it’s hard to just be a musician without also having to be a “content creator” dancing on social media. She wanted to run away and just play her music. One day, all that frustration just poured out into this one word: Hellya! It might not even be a real word, but you definitely get what she means when you hear her sing it.
The song is a big step away from her older, softer ballads. She worked with her producers in Florence to give it a heavy, rock-driven feel.
