Cedric D Captures Patience and Hope on “Waiting 4 Sunshine”

I always say every song has a listener and someone it was meant for. But then sometimes the song comes in and we all enjoy it. Crazy thing is if you live in California, you know that winter isn’t always palm trees and surfing. Sometimes it’s just grey, wet, and slightly depressing. Because sometimes people are just in their homes, sometimes you don’t get anything to do, neither do you wanna do any of the activities peeps are doing. Now Cedric D, a producer and DJ from San Jose, clearly felt that vibe when he sat down in his home studio to record his latest track, “Waiting 4 Sunshine.”

Cedric who is a big fan of artists like Odesza and Bonobo, you can clearly hear that influences in his work. He’s already been getting some love from college radio stations, and he is becoming a regular face at art venues and festivals around the Bay Area.

Now this song “Waiting 4 Sunshine” is very unique with the way it starts out with this weird, detuned lead sound that immediately grabs your attention. It feels light and airy, almost like a mist clearing up. According to Cedric, he wanted the song to feel “breathable,” something that can ease people off those boring moments, those repetitive activities and rather allow them to focus, enjoy their moments and not over complicate stuffs whilst clearing their minds. And to me he definitely pulled it off. The song has this blend of house music and R&B, but whilst listening, you can hear most of it beats being just a really solid electronic instrumental that makes you want to stare out a window and think about your life.

The story behind the title is pretty simple: it was raining a lot in December, and Cedric was tired of it. He wanted the sun to come back. But he also mentions that the song is for anyone waiting for their big break or for a “magical moment” when their dreams finally start happening. And this is what makes the track special. You’ve been pounding at the same spot, grinding your ass off, putting in the same energy, but no sunshine. But regardless you keep going, because you know after the rain, the sun will shine one moment and you will be all set for it. It’s a track that gives hope, even if it starts in the clouds.

I love the production in here, nothing is crowded, it’s clean but still feels human, likely because he did the whole thing himself at home where he could experiment without a ticking clock. It isn’t a heavy, pounding club track. It’s more of a “headphones on while you walk through the city” kind of song.

But hey the big news is Cedric D is planning a busy 2026 with a bunch of live sets at local festivals. So ma jiggys in Northern California, you’ll probably run into him soon. Until then, “Waiting 4 Sunshine” is the perfect track to put on while you wait for the weather (or your life) to clear up.
