“Any Day Now” by Audra Watt Captures the Feeling of Waiting for Your Moment

Have you ever found yourself stuck in that loop where you keep saying you’ll start your big project or change your life “any day now,” but then you look at the calendar and realize six months have flown by? So lemme ask, do you feel like you’re right on schedule with your life goals, or are you a proud member of the “starting late” club like the rest of us? It’s never too late for anything anyway, I’ve been there, and apparently, so has Audra Watt. She just released a new single called “Any Day Now” that hits that exact feeling right on the head.

Audra is based in Nashville, and she has this really cool way of blending modern pop with a bit of a vintage soul. This track is actually the opener for her upcoming album, “Start Late”. I love that title because it’s such a middle finger to the idea that if you didn’t hit your goals by age twenty-five, you’ve somehow missed the boat.

The song itself is surprisingly upbeat. It doesn’t sound like a sad “woe is me” story. Instead, it’s got this catchy, jazzy energy. One of the coolest parts is this muted trumpet sound that makes the whole thing feel like it’s leaning into a 1920s vibe. Wait lemme tell you a secret here, that muted trumpet you hear is actually a keyboard, but it sounds so much like a real horn that you’d never know unless someone told you. What it does is give the track a lot of personality and keeps it from sounding like every other pop song on the radio.

The band she put together for this is top-notch. You’ve got Anthony Rankin on keys and bass, and Miles McPherson on the drums, and they really lock into that groove. There’s even a mandolin in there played by Andy Ellison that adds a bit of a folky, organic texture.

Audra wrote this with Jeffrey East, and they really dug into the idea that “any day now” isn’t just something that happens to you. It’s a choice you have to make, and one that is decided by you! And according to her, the song was born from her own habit of putting herself last and waiting for the “perfect” time to pursue her dreams. This really impacted her, well it also got us this banger anyway.

Now the lyrics reflect that shift from just believing things will get better to actually getting up and meeting your goals halfway. Like do you get it? It ain’t always that you’ve to keep waiting and waiting, sometimes you’ve gotta make a step and have faith, that will take you closer to achieving your goals than just waiting for the perfect time, what if that perfect time is also waiting for you to make a step?

What I love here is that the production was handled by Andrew King and recorded at Vibe King Studio in East Nashville. It’s a smaller, more intimate space, and you can hear that in her vocals. She sounds very close and honest, not like she’s being buried under a mountain of digital effects.

It’s a great track that reminds us that your timeline is the only one that actually matters and as such, you should never think it’s too late to start anything, live life on your terms and give it your all!
