Inside Prience Moore’s Deeply Personal Single “I Should’ve Let You Go”

You know these days relationship tends to be more difficult and hurtful. It ain’t easy, before you meet that one person who will love you through it all, then you’ve really been through hell and back. But the the thing is sometimes we stay in relationships beyond the times we should have left when things get bad. So have you ever stayed in a relationship way longer than you should have, entirely because you hoped things would magically fix themselves?

We have all been there, staring at the ceiling and wishing we had just packed our bags months ago, yet here we are. But I’ve got you, if you need a good tune to help you process that exact type of regret, Seattle-based artist Prience Moore wrote a song that gets straight to the point. The track is called “I Should’ve Let You Go.” Prience, who also goes by Prince, is a really interesting creator in the indie scene. He has a massive, wildly diverse list of personal inspirations that ranges from the classical piano compositions of Beethoven all the way to the high-energy arena rock of Aerosmith.

He also counts smooth icons like Babyface and George Michael as major influences on his melodic style. But when it comes to his own songwriting, Prience does not try to copy anyone else. He lets everything flow directly from his own real-life experiences. He calls “I Should’ve Let You Go” the gateway to his entire musical explosion. Even though he had written quite a few songs before this one, he realized that this specific track became the absolute foundation for his whole catalog. In his own words, without this song, none of his other music would even exist.

The story behind the release is deeply personal. It came out of a real-life situation that completely changed the course of Prience’s life. To record it, he headed into Unlimitedtalents Studio to work with producer Micheal Miller. When they sat down to track the song, Prience had one major rule: he wanted to make sure the background beat stayed simple so it wouldn’t overpower the raw message of the lyrics.

Let us dive into the actual track, because the structure of this song is where the real magic happens. The track keeps things clean and focused, allowing Prience’s pain-filled, soulful vocal delivery to take absolute center stage. You can hear the genuine heartbreak in his voice as he looks back on a love that went sour. The big turning point in the song happens during the bridge.

While they were working in the studio, Micheal Miller started messing around on the keys and put together a beautiful, spontaneous piano interlude. The second Prience heard it, it was a total “WOW” moment, and it instantly became his absolute favorite part of the entire track. It provides a gorgeous, emotional breather right before the song hits its peak.

I love how incredibly raw and upfront the lyrics are. In fact, when Prience first played the finished track for his family, his cousin said she could actually feel the weight of his pain. She specifically pointed out the powerful line, “Bust right through the door,” as a moment that completely grabs your attention and punches you right in the gut.

Prience is currently working hard behind the scenes on setting up his very first live performances. In the meantime, this single stands as a beautiful, honest introduction to his storytelling style. It ignores flashy studio tricks and sticks to real instruments and true feelings. So I won’t be surprised if y’all jump on this one and put it on repeat, cos it’s got that smooth, soulful indie tracks vibe that handle the messy reality of a breakup with total honesty. So go ahead and enjoy this beautiful masterpiece “I Should’ve Let You Go“.
