Teanko – “Between Two Selves” Celebrates Life, Growth, and Self-Acceptance

Life is crazy and beautiful same time, think about it. You work your ass off, get all the wealth you want and go into retirement where most people just tend to pursue their hobbies. When it comes to the music side of things, most retirement music projects go one of two ways. It’s either you get a quiet acoustic guitar record about grandbabies, or you get someone trying too hard to sound twenty-five again.

Then along comes Teanko with his single, “Between Two Selves“. Most people in retirement usually do some stuffs you might not agree with, like they buying a sports car or taking up extreme golf etc. But this Dutch singer-songwriter Theo Konst instead packed his bags for Portugal, looked through some old photo albums, and said, I need to hit the recording studio. That moment and feel is what we have here, a crisp blend of pop and rock that pierces your heart and let you embrace its infectious energy.

One thing about this track I like more is how wonderfully it feels alive. Right from the start, a bright electric guitar riff sets the pace. It pulls you in, and wraps you in this sweet melodies. Then you’ve rhythm section dropping in shortly after, driving the groove forward with a clean, punchy beat that puts you in that mood where you can’t help but start nodding or moving your body to the beats. The arrangements is quite tight here and you can hear these subtle electric guitar fills woven between the vocal phrases, giving the track a classic indie rock flare. The production balances modern studio clarity with genuine, organic playing. Nothing feels over-processed or buried under plastic synth effects. You can hear the pick on the strings and the real room room dynamics.

Something beautiful happens around the middle section of the song that strikes me, the lead guitar comes in again and takes over the show with a melodic solo that soars over the rhythm without being overshadowing the whole track. And I think it actually fits the theme of the track, thoughtful, confident, and smooth. When you pay attention to the vocals, you realize how Teanko delivers a grounded, natural performance. He ain’t trying to hit glass-shattering high notes. Instead, he speaks to you directly like an old friend over a cup of coffee. His vocals sits right at the front, it comes in clean, clear and easy to follow.

I can say “Between Two Selves” is refreshingly simple. It explores that quiet turning point in life when you stop chasing every single passing opportunity. You stop grinding for gold stars or trying to prove yourself to people you do not even like. You look at who you were back in the day, grin at the old photos, and realize you are totally fine with where you landed. I mean ain’t that the beauty of life? To enjoy those memories you created along every hustle and sigh and say wow, I’m fulfilled, and just like Teanko puts it in the song, “But this is where I’m exactly meant to be” getting to the closer part of the song.

It’s ain’t a nostalgic song pining for the good old days. It acknowledges the past, dusts off the memories, and then looks straight ahead into the future. It’s about moving forward simply because you want to, not because someone is holding a stopwatch behind you. So if you’re looking for an honest, well-crafted indie rock tune with great guitar work and a genuine heart, give this one a listen.
