V.E.N! – “Waking Up In The Night”: Exploring Loneliness, Change and Personal Growth

The human brain always has a way of making us wonder if we ever made the right decisions to keep it where it is. Because tell me why bed time is up, and here I am, eyes rolling and fully focused and trying to solve all the mysteries of the universe, whilst getting bombarded with some decisions I made long time ago as a kid. It’s crazy, but sometimes can we even blame the brain? We fed it! Well Spanish independent artist Edu Campoy, recording under the moniker V.E.N! (Virtual Emotions Network), bottled up the late-night psychological spiral for his six-track EP, “Waking Up In The Night“.

I love how the EP explores the parts of ourselves we don’t usually pay attention to, the EP takes us through loneliness, uncertainty, personal change and the need to find meaning in a world that can sometimes feel difficult to understand. What can we do when it’s a world we haven’t experienced before? I mean it’s everyone’s first time being here, and therefore things will always be complicated, but the truth is people have lived it before and gave us enough to survive it, so why are some of us failing? Feeling lost, being a lone wolf and threading this world without a compass.

The way V.E.N! blends genres here is very fascinating, you get the upbeat punch of power-pop guitars with progressive rock arrangements and alternative rock, giving the entire release a breathing, live-band warmth. It feels organic, with electric guitars doing most of the work, moving between energetic, rough-edged moments and more restrained delivery. I must say the vocal delivery is also great, ifs able to deliver in each state, when it’s supposed to be gentle, vulnerable and even stronger and rough when the guitars also gets intense. Let’s glance through the tracks, enjoy and experience this nocturnal journey.

When the world begins to feel empty and crazy, we all begin to yearn for “Connection”. This track lays down the emotional direction for the rest of the EP to follow, setting a strong foundation. It starts with this power pop guitar melodies, the track creates this introspective mood, where the guitars alternate between clean, chiming chords and a raw, driving edge. The lyrics tackle the isolation we often feel in a crowded world, suggesting that true clarity arrives only when we embrace silence and find a way back to ourselves. The song keeps reminding us that even when we don’t know what to do, we should hear the silence, when we are lost and blue, we should hear the silence. Find that connection, stay afloat and live!

On “Break the Compass“, things gets extra emotional and deep, reflecting the chaotic feeling of losing your direction in life. The rhythm section moves at a slow pace, while dynamic vocal harmonies swirl in the background. It’s a track that asks to sometimes explore the unknown, live beyond what you know, seek to know more and live life on your own terms. Life is beautiful when we see the joy in the smallest of things, society today or the leaders today are just playing with our souls and life, so you can decide to find your own map, break their compass and find new directions to explore this life or forever be their puppets. Though it may be difficult, different and panic may set in, but whatever happens you will never know if you don’t break the compass!

Things get heated up a bit on “The Scared Animal“, you can hear the distant sirens ringing in the background as the guitars and drums picks up pace. The track leans into vulnerable, fragile atmosphere. In a world where everyone’s looking to break each other just to survive, if you fall, you don’t have to remain down, you need that sacred animal in you to kick you up. Because when you fai, those friends who knows you too much and knows where to hit will be laughing at you, and the moment you rise to the top, they start hating you. So why do you want to give up? Why are you still staying down after falling? Rise up, get going and make sure you make it. Let that fear of failing push you up and break free from it. On the other side, life can be beautiful when you have someone behind you, your ride or die, the one that backs you up, the one that knows you, and you also knows them. They understand you, they know your vision, they know where you going and why also. To them if you fail, they’ve also failed, and therefore will push you to keep going.

“Crossing the Last Valley” sweeps in with progressive textures and wider dynamic shifts. The guitars grow heavier and more expansive, mirroring a grueling climb up a steep hill before a breakthrough. I love how cinematic the track feels without losing its organic, grounded core. This song feels like that moment where you leave your old self behind and try to reach new heights. You try to grow, you try to find the sweetness in life, you try to get a better life, after you’ve believed the lies people have told about you. Now you want to live your life without anyone’s interference, because you’ve regretted how you’ve allowed people to influence a lot of your decisions and now you’ve seen the brighter side of life and never again. It’s a great piece that urges you to believe in yourself, strive for the best and stop living life in the shadows of how people see you and not how you see yourself!

As the EP continues, we all can see the pattern and story here, and “Evolution” explores personal transformation and shedding old skin. The song pushes forward with a steady, driving drum beat and soaring vocal lines that shift from hesitant whispers to fierce, full-chested declarations. This song feels like the popular saying, from the ashes we came and to the ashes we shall go. “The Home of the New Man” closes the EP with a deep breath. It brings the journey to a peaceful, reflective halt. The instrumentation feels vast yet intimate, blending gentle chords with thought-provoking lyrical themes about what happens after change rather than what’s lost. It’s like finally making it and being happy that you’re free, no debts, no more pain, all these sufferings you went through, you did it because you saw the future and never took your eyes off the road.

This is a great EP, actually a beautiful one, you can take the whole concept to the spiritual side of things too, standing the test of time, surviving it and finally being at where you wanted to be. “Waking Up In The Night” treats the dark hours not as something to fear or escape, but as a mandatory staging ground for personal evolution. Campoy weaves personal philosophy, spiritual curiosity, and social commentary into lyrics that remain open. V.E.N! has crafted a masterpiece where every guitar pedal has a story. It deserves your attention, it’s smart, melodic, and rewards active listening from start to finish. The project also has a visual side, drawing on pop art and collage, with individual artwork created to connect with each song’s ideas. That adds another layer to V.E.N!’s creative identity. So go stream “Waking Up In The Night” and experience the different sides of we humans in your own ways!
