4 min read

When I say sometimes you just wanna have the music playing and wanna get away from everything and just be listening to music all day I didn’t lie. But what can make you do that? Unless you have an album that just sits you down and let you dive deep into its melodies and composition without breaking a sweat trying to figure out what it is, and such an album is what J Dulva, a veteran in the music industry has for us on his latest album titled “Funny Looking Flowers”. Now this album brings to us a beautiful blend of rock, blues, and jazz to our ears. It was recorded at Poolside Studios. The moment you hit play on the first track you realize the influence of the vibrant sounds of the 1960s and 70s, and the way J Dulva crafted this to give the listener a nostalgic and refreshing feel is what makes it unique and intriguing. Not only does the album makes listeners wanna enjoy it more but it also go ahead to show how talented J Dulva is and his elite pen game along with his beautiful creativity in sounds. So get ready to embark on a thrilling journey through the 8 tracks with each offering you something to keep listening.

Now setting the album on flames is the track “19th Degree Blues”. The moment you hit the play button on this track, you just know you’re in for a real treat. Those bluesy guitars riffs that opens the track along with those rocky drums coming in to mix with the vocals just gives you the real vibe of the 70s music. Then as you listen along, you hear how refined and modern the elements are yet very nostalgic. It’s a track that has the perfect storytelling to make listeners glued and hooked to see how the rest of the album pans out. As the song goes on, you realize how the lyrics lay emphasis on the challenges our modern world is facing, you’d be there and the next moment you open the news, it’s a massacre from somewhere around the world, it’s like a cycle of problems that keeps happening. Then as the song goes on you hear lines like “since the news came tonight from the east” and “politicians scrambling gonna meet, destroy it with a word” hints at the chaotic essence of our world now. What I love soo much about the song are those blues guitar riffs, man it just makes the whole listening experience worthwhile. The way they blend together with the drums and other elements make this a really compelling masterpiece crafted to send a powerful message. It’s a song that warns us about how the elite are destroying our world and yet provides a sense of hope. So don’t sit down and let some politician tell you what to do, know what’s best for you and your society, we can’t keep being puppets to these elites and end up ruining our homes and families.

Another track that is yet instrumental but very unique is “Triapse”. This track really is awesome and magical, the way it starts is soo enticing and very alluring, creating an atmosphere that is calm and relaxed. It let’s you immerse yourself into its complex and layered soundscapes. Then as the track goes on, it switches to a whole different composition with the same flow but different elements of sounds in there, wow, and just when you thought you’ve heard it all, the ending just sweeps you off your feet with its jazz influences, and improvisational elements coming together effortlessly throughout. See I really fuck with the album and especially those instrumental tracks, they are heavenly and very rich with intricate patterns and evolving themes. Bringing the album to a beautiful ending is the track, “Windcatcher.” This track shifts from the lyric aspect into an instrumental journey. What’s soo intriguing about this track is even without lyrics, it still manages to speak through those intricate and dynamic guitar strings and rhythms. The track allows you to immerse yourself in the raw emotions transported through those melodies. When you pay attention to the track you can feel some sort of freedom and contemplation in there, allowing the listener to ponder on their life and live it freely. Now that’s how you make music, and I love the fact that J Dulva’s ability to communicate profound feelings without uttering a single word becomes evident in this track. Such a beautiful way to sign out of the album with freedom and liberty to go and live your life despite the chaos that surrounds us.

Well J Dulva’s latest album Funny Looking Flowers is just amazing, and it goes on to show his ability to blend lyrical storytelling with instrumental mastery. To me he’s crafted an album that has everything you need an album to have, a bit of instrumentals to allow you to enjoy your emotional moments coupled with tracks that has their own message, wow. Now that’s how you make an album, the arrangements, the lyrics, the beats and the ability to have a bit of genres in there is just crazy and I love it. So go ahead and have a beautiful weekend with this album. ENJOY!! Make sure to check him out on the links below for more;
