EXPLORING BETRAYAL AND TRUST IN DSP’S “HANDS IN MY POCKET”: A COUNTRY ROCK MASTERPIECE”

3 min read

In life some people are never grateful for whatever they have, some others too never cease to break our trust in them and some others all they do is always betray us the moment the opportunity arises, such situations is what Down South Pepper(DSP) hailing all the way from Kvalsund, Norway, talks about in their latest single dubbed “Hands in My Pocket”. A song that talks about the side of wealth and power that no one seems to talk about. The feeling of betrayal, trust lost even in the most people close to you and that’s something every wealthy person gets frightened by. To be surrounding by people who betray you no matter how much you give them, they always wanna sell you out or steal from you. And DSP really got this locked in here on Hands in My Pocket, those country elements infused with some rocky drums and blended with a folk inspired singing, such genre mixture is what we gonna feast on. So are you ready? Let’s dive in.

If you know DSP band, you’d really know how they mix genres from rock, country, folk and other elements of sounds to give their listeners an immersive listening experience. Now this song, led by Rune Nyby’s vocals paints a very clear picture of betrayal, suspicion and trust issues. Sometimes those wealthy are seen to be wicked or cruel but then sometimes you can’t blame them, cos the moment they get people very close to them and become very open, that’s when you see the kinda people they surrounded with. People already have their plans and so the moment the opportunity presents itself they don’t think twice about it and just wanna betray, steal and break the wealthy man. A man who use to be loaded is now broke and have no one to turn to, just because he got surrounded by people who stole and betrayed him. So in this life be careful who you trust and who you allow in your circle, people will betray you for anything and call it a mistake. People are greedy, and looking for someone to devour, so never trust too much and always watch your six. This song has this country cowboy vibes that I love soo much with those guitar strings that starts the track, then you get a blend of blues, country and rockabilly and it is just absolutely amazing!. Then the song goes on to lay emphasis on how people with money or fame are used and exploited by people they think love them and how sad that actually is. The line “He’s go his hands in my pocket everytime I look the other way” shows how helpless the character in the song is and how everyone around them just uses them. Such is the reality people face a lot these days and thus makes this song resonates deeply with listeners.

Well Hand in My Pocket just goes on to show DSP’s ability to combine the Outlaw country and Americana genre to give birth to this masterpiece, and I love how it pans out, those deep lyrics, the storyline and storytelling makes iy am even compelling piece to savour. With Per Øyvind Mathisen on bass and electric guitar,Lars Rune Rebbestad on acoustic lead guitar and Eivind Kløverød on drums, DSP promises to continue delivering real masterpieces and fans should watch out for more. So why don’t you go ahead and give this song a good listen. ENJOY!! Make sure to check them out on the links below for more;
