“FRACTIONS OF A WHOLE”: A PURE MELODIC ALBUM BY THE WESTERN CIVILIZATION

4 min read

Have you enjoyed an album soo much that you repeat it whole day just so you can get yourself soaked in its melodies, message and atmosphere till you’re completely drowned. Such an album is what this Indie Rock band from Austin, Texas, “The Western Civilization” crafted for us to enjoy , titled “Fractions of a Whole”. The band led by Reggie O’Farrell and Rachel Hansbro, spent hours and hours working to polish this album to perfection. There’s a lot of great songs on the album with each sending a different message and since I don’t wanna give you spoilers on every song before you even get a chance to listen, I’m gonna talk about only three(3) so let’s get right into it.

Setting the album on flames is the track “Noctambulism”. A track which talks about the unease we can sometimes feel in a relationship due to how complicated things get at time, then we have to make stupid decisions because of the uncomfortability that comes, we react in soo many ways that we end up hurting that one peron we swore to never hurt. Then while listening to this song, you just get consumed with those acoustic esque elements infused with these angelic vocals ringing in your ears. Then as the song goes on you’re allowed to enjoy the songs beats , then you realize the intensity in which the beats rises and just when you’re soaked in its atmosphere, the vocals comes in again and take you away, leaving a lasting impression on you. Just know that it’s okay to be frustrated, it’s okay to make mistakes, and always stay calm even if your partner makes you feel weird, know that it’s part of the relationship and thus y’all gonna be fine. What I love most about this song are the beats, soo immaculate and soothing. Top notch creativity and delivery to master such an art, I love it and gives the album the right feel for the listener to go one and enjoy themselves.

Next on my list is another great song that I personally love, titled “She’s by the Sea.” This song is just calm, infused with nature sounds creating an atmosphere where the listener gets to feel the breeze from the see with this imagery of a woman by the sea, thinking about how much it hurts to love someone who doesn’t love you back. And how painful it is when you tell them and they turn you down, breaking you down and get you thinking you’re confused and it wasn’t wise of you to confess your love to them. This is something that has happened to most of us, and makes this song a deep resonating masterpiece. Now lemme tell you something crazy here, just after this track, the next track that comes will have you filled with tears of joy to how good the album is and why people can sit and create such an intriguing masterpiece. Bringing the album to a grand closing is the track “Proselytism”. A song that talks about accepting and embracing your insecurities and finding ways to over come so you can break free from any limitations you’ve placed on yourself. This is me everyday, and so I fuck with this song soo much, sometimes you ought to accept your potential and also accept your limitations so you can find a balance between them. If you can’t figure out who you are, how can you accept who you are? So are you gonna sit down and worry about your insecurities and your flaws? When you can actually work on them and use them as a motivation to make yourself better. Never let any flaws or anyone look down upon you, love yourself first before you can love anyone at all. Have a wonderful week enjoying this masterpiece of creativity and innovation.

Well “Fractions of a Whole” is one hell of an album that deserves your attention, it’s a masterpiece that goes on to show just how talented Western Civilization is, and how they go absolutely craazy when they put their hearts and souls into making music. I love them for that and the way they crafted this album, y’all just gonna go nuts on it, cos it’s addictive, innovative and have a song for everyone and every situation.
