2 min readFrom the skies into the heaven’s we all must be feasting today hahaha. Today I’m giving y’all bangers upon bangers and without doubt Calgary’s instrumental pop duo, Ginger Beef are gonna serve us hot, with their latest single “Dew” from their self-titled debut album. What do I tell you guys about debuts ? It’s where all the magic happens and the album which was released last month offers a blend of retro vibes coupled with Asian influences which takes listeners on a unique musical experience that sounds different from those mainstream songs.
For us fans and non fans to feast, we are getting a special treat to a music video to the single “Dew”, a song crafted from the depths of beautiful sounds, explored to give us what we are listening to. “Dew,” is a glossy retro-influenced track that carries moments of magic, happiness and positivity. Now here’s the catch, “Dew” comes in special as it’s not just sound track, but also has some catchy vocals that sets it apart from other instrumentals.
Now this is why the track “Dew” was created, according MSG, aka Warren Tse, one half of Ginger Beef, “Dew” was created from the vibes that the 90s gave when they were young, so they wanted to create something unique to bring those memories back. It’s an easy song that anyone that listens to can relate to and sing along, feel the vibe and dance to those melodious beats, the jazzy vibes makes it Soo nice not to dance and feel happy. And if you listen carefully, you might hear a coded message in there too.
Creating sounds that is genre mix is really difficult but Ginger beef took it to themselves to bring back to life a beautiful genre like instrumental pop that was fading away by giving it a modern touch. MSG explains, “We’re unabashedly pop, but being jazz adjacent gives us access to a much broader palette,” pointing to acts like The Police and Steely Dan as examples of jazzers who found mainstream success.
MSG brings rock and jazz-adjacent sensibilities to the duo, while Jiajia Li, with her master’s degree in flute performance and extensive classical training, superbly fronts the project. Their musical partnership results in instrumental music that refuses to fade away or puts listener to sleep haha.
Ginger Beef’s “Dew” is a must listen song, from the beats, to those faint vocals in the background and the delivery makes it a solid 10/10 track that everyone must enjoy. So go ahead and give “Dew” a listen and it might end up in your favorite party playlist alongside your main playlist. Make sure to check them out on the links below for more;
