HERMIT by A Beech Landing Explores Life Behind Screens
Life is really crazy these days, like people are damn lonely because all they do is sit behind screens, pile a lot of emojis and just log out, no connections with real people and it’s hella draining a lot of us out. So lemme ask you this, does the idea of being “connected” while totally alone sound like your average Tuesday, or are you one of those people who still remembers how to have a conversation without using an emoji?

Well someone has something to say in a song that will leave you thinking again about sitting behind your screens. Now A Beech Landing is a project that grew out of a really rough patch in life. What happened? Well when things got turbulent, the artist moved into a small place that had a narrow wooden landing made of beechwood. And just out of that, a project’s name was birthed, and honestly, the music sounds exactly like that, someone tucked away in a small corner trying to make sense of the world with just a guitar and a laptop.
This new single is called HERMIT, and it hits on something almost everyone is feeling right now. Our world has really changed, and a lot is happening, information is everywhere and sometimes I wonder how people process all those kind of information at their finger tips. But here’s the catch, the track was almost called “Modern Hermit,” but I think the shorter title just works better and thus the artist stuck with it.
Now this song is one hell of a track, it tells the story of a guy who is actually great with people, but he ends up becoming a loner without even meaning to. Not that he doesn’t actually socialize or go out, but the moment those adventures comes to and end, he’s back behind a screen, thinking he’s making real connections, but he’s really just sitting in a room by himself with a computer.
What I love about the track is those heavy guitars that strikes every now and then, it actually keeps you in the loop and reminds you of the reality many are living today. What happens? From work, they seem the happiest then comes back to their phone or computers and back to their own hidings again, feeling all lonely, scrolling scrolling, gets bored and now wants to talk to someone, but here we are when you’ve got no real friendship or relationship with anyone in the real world.
Everything feels like a super power somewhere has set a trap for us. At one moment you feel you’re being social, and then at another you’re just some lonely dude out there addicted to the Internet and you just can’t quit. The illusion here is, it makes you feel as though you’ve made friends, connected with people, laugh under people’s post, send all the comments, be the big guy, but at the end of the day it’s just you and your screen.
The people you troll, advise or share some information with, they are gone, not there with you to ponder or laugh real laughter on the things you said. But something here is what intrigues me, and it’s about how the track was made. You might be thinking it’s a big production, well nothing expensive here, everything was recorded using bargain-bin gear that wasn’t even meant for music production.
Like do you get it? It just gives the track that gritty, lo-fi texture that you just can’t fake with a computer plugin. Its got this wild mix that you can’t ignore, as the track builds up, you hear this fuzzy, dreamy guitar style that reminds you of Smashing Pumpkins or Tame Impala. But then, out of nowhere, you’re met with these big harmonies and melodies that feel like they were borrowed from ABBA or the Bee Gees. It even has a bit of that heavy Led Zeppelin energy.
To me HERMIT is more than just a song; it’s a snapshot of how weirdly lonely our high-tech lives have become. It’s catchy, inviting, intriguing and makes you wanna change your lifestyle when you realize you’ve been scrolling for three hours and haven’t actually spoken to a person in days.
