JOANNA BORRET’S “CLAN” IS A CLASSICAL CELLO AND PIANO MASTERPIECE

3 min read

You know often a times you need those relaxing soundtracks, where there’s no lyrics to think of but just enjoying those beautiful instrumentals that’s Soo cool and calms your nerves. I had a wonderful listen to Joanna Borrett’s album, “Clan.” It’s an amazing classical cello and piano masterpiece that tells the story of an ancient Scottish clan and trust me it’s really 🔥🔥. The slow tempos and tunes from those cellos and piano damn I wish I could listen to it all day and with this one Borrett takes listeners on a classical musical journey that beautifully narrates the history and heritage of this indigenous Scottish community.

The crazy thing is that these classical piece stands out for its use of specialist piano and cello techniques, such as col legno, ponticello, tapping, and specialist pizzicato. Those techniques add more layers of depth which helps in creating a rich and evocative musical experience that I can’t let go of how good it is and how enjoyable it is, man you’ve gotta give this sh** a listen. The arrangements of the tracks on the album even makes it more enjoyable and unique, imagine that dancefloor with this album playing fully, sucking every bit of it with that special person.

Often a time not many women want to embark on these classical music scenes but Joanna here makes it her core value to work with women music groups hence giving them the platform to join these scenes. It doesn’t just stop there, what if you’re not close enough? Well she has made a magnificent contribution by creating an avenue for online lessons which is Soo beneficial for everyone that wants to learn irrespective of your economic status.

Joanna’s musical journey dates back to 1976 when, at the age of 19, she left home to study the cello at the Moscow Conservatoire. While her career flourished, including the formation of her own professional string orchestra, she never quite felt at home in the classical music world. It was during a break from playing that she found her way back to music, determined to chart her own unique musical path.

Joanna’s unconventional approach to learning music sets her apart. She taught herself to play by ear, to improvise, and eventually to compose. Just over two years ago, she sent some of her compositions to publishers, leading to the publication of her music by reputable publishers like Kevin Mayhew, U.M.P., and S.J. Music. However, what makes Joanna’s work truly remarkable is her mission to tear down the barriers that aspiring musicians often face.

Dating back to August of this year, she started sharing and making available weekly online lessons on her Facebook page which infact are designed to make the art of cello really accessible to students from all backgrounds. Improvisation is a skill that isn’t typically part of classical training, and Joanna’s videos, each lasting roughly a minute, are accompanied by short text providing students with valuable context. Joanna’s musical style is a specialist string effects, including col legno, tremolo bowing, ponticello, tapping, and singing. She combines both classics and folk elements in her songs and that makes it Soo intriguing to listen to.

The album “Clan” ain’t just some collection of just any classics but rather it’s carefully selected and beautifully arranged to give listeners the best of moments and her commitment to breaking down barriers in the classical music world. “Clan” is an amazing musical journey that showcases Joanna’s exceptional talent and dedication to the art of music and there I want you to pick up your headphones grab some drink, relax in that couch and put on this album on repeat. There’s no disappointments here. Make sure to check her out on the links below;
