“MIDNIGHT INDIGO” BY ROISIN O’HAGAN: A DANCE-WORTHY TALE OF LOVE AND HEARTACHE

4 min read

One thing in life that makes life quite interesting is finding that one person whom you can’t do away with even if y’all get caught up in your demons, it’s like they complete you and you also complete them. They make your life worth it irrespective of their flaws and yours as well, you really never would’ve thought they would vanish out of thin air one day and leave you longing and desperate for them. The pain, anguish and heartbreak is really crazy realizing they left without a trace. Such an experience is what Roisin O’Hagan, an amazing singer-songwriter from Essex, UK, has put together on her latest single titled “Midnight Indigo”. A song that tells the tale of two toxic lovers who can’t do away with each other, and one day it all went downhill. What I love about the song is how it’s got this relatable content, then those upbeat infusion of rock and pop with vibrant vibe and energy making it an intriguing track that pushes you from your seat and move your body to the beats. Well, Roisin who got his influences from big dawgs like Counting Crows, Taylor Swift, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Ed Sheeran, and Coldplay, grew up in a home filled with music enthusiasts and started her journey at the age of 12. Now the most beautiful thing about this track is that, these influences are really evident in this release and man, o man, you just can’t get enough of it, marking an important shift from her previous releases.

Now if you’ve been following her for long, you’d realize her Dreamstate EP recorded in Nashville was heavily country-pop inspired but this new single “Midnight Indigo” comes in with a fresh vibe with the way she infused elements of pop, rock, and singer-songwriter to make this an interesting and incredible piece that goes on to demonstrate her versatility as an artist. There’s something about this track “Midnight Indigo” that makes you wanna repeat it all over again. The beats are soo crisp, refined and distinctive with the way each element shines yet in sync to keep the vocals together and gets the listener hooked by those driving guitars, percussion and infectious melodies that makes it impossible for you to stay still while listening to this masterpiece. After you’ve been glued by those beats, the song then goes on to talk about the tale of two lovers whose toxic passion for each other makes them unable to do away with each other, they yearn for each other like a wind and fire, the more closer they get, the more they burn cos they complement each other, buy can also be a destructive combo. Then one day the unexpected happens, that person who couldn’t do away with you, that one person who was your everything, that one person whom you could trust even in the middle of the night to always be there for you has left you without a word. And now it’s driving you nuts, asking yourself why not even a word, why couldn’t they say they fed up? Why couldn’t they just let you know they tired? Then the way Roisin told the story with this determined vocals gets you into the feels of both characters, you feel their pain and you feel their desire making the song such a masterpiece worth it. It leaves you in this state of c’mon, if you were gonna leave at least you should’ve told him or her something, at least explain your reason, at least say good-bye, then you could feel the tears dripping down your cheeks, indicating how Roisin can coin such an emotional piece for her listeners. I love the storyline and the storytelling. And now that’s how you create music to resonate deeply with your listeners, this is something most of us have experienced, you’re soo much in love with someone and they also soo into you and just one day, you wake up and they’ve left without a trace, leaving you to deal with your emotions and hurt, and have no option than to move out of town to search for them thinking they there. Then as the song progresses, you hear these lines “you’re a nightmare and I can’t stop dreaming, if not us then who do I believe in, in another life I’d be running from you,” hinting at the inner struggles, pain, frustrations and emotions that burns within the song and that of the characters.

Well this song Midnight Indigo by Roisin O’Hagan is indeed a masterpiece, crafted magnificently for listeners to enjoy and embrace the pain of having to give your all to someone who also desires you the same without breaking a sweat. It’s a song that makes you appreciate the love someone shows you unconditionally, even tho betrayal may happen, but it doesn’t stop you from loving them the same. One thing I love about Roisin is her ability to craft personal, real experiences with universal themes of love, betrayal, and resilience. And that’s why you should give this song a listen, it’s a solid 10/10 track that will leave you wanting for more. ENJOY!! Make sure to check her out on the links below for more;
