It’s another debut and you don’t need me to tell you this is straightout banger of an EP. I always tell you debuts are where all the crazy magic and hard work happens. Well it’s another debut and this time I introduce to you Simon Maggs, the brains behind this golden EP titled “The Art of Being Alone”. Why you shouldn’t miss out on this EP is it’s blend of folksy indie tunes to take you on a captivating journey like never before. While Simon takes inspiration from artists like Billy Bragg, The Smiths, Frank Turner, and I Am Kloot. An artist with a weak pen game will always come last anything but the lyircs and storytelling here in this EP is out of this world. Craaazzyy man from the first track to the last track this EP is power packed and ready to make you fall in love with Simon. Lemme take you through the tracks swiftly.
Starting the EP with a grand opening is the Self titled track, “The Art of Being Alone.” A song that sets the mood for the rest of the album to unfold. The depth of the lyrics and it’s storyline are solid and a must listen. The song talks about a busy world where no one cares of what’s around them, there’s people everywhere but no one wants to be found. The lyrics paints a clear picture of the beauty found in independence. It’s a beautiful song that talks to the listener the beauty in enjoying your own company.
Next is ma personal favorite, “Bookshop Sunset.” Hahaha oh my goodness this song, man thiiiiss song is crazy, the storytelling in here is out of this world. See the song made me felt like being the main character in that story and just being part of it. Meeting someone in the bookshop, talking about how y’all wish you could write and after all the talks, you jumped to town to go have fun. Now go listen to the song and get the whole story. It’s a beautiful song. A little gist 😉 it’s a song about a spark of love that transpired between two people who had similar interests and shared some beautiful moments. The beats comes in with that sunset vibes making the song a solid 10/10 for me. follows, narrating a chance encounter at Waterstones.
Now here comes the third song “Last Man Standing.” This song carries the energy and a vibrant atmosphere that changes the EP. The shift in vibes and elements wow, takes EP to a whole new level. And that’s what you get when you have a dynamic artist. Bravo to Simon. The lyrics speak of a being the only man standing with the lights out, even tho you lost the battle but you won the war. It has everything you need in a song. The delivery, pen game and vocals are solid.
