“They Want My Crown”: MMM Fires Back With No Apologies

Not many are able to flow on any beat, so when you change on rappers that can just flow on any beat without deviating then you know you’re in for a treat. And well MMM just dropped a new single called “They Want My Crown,” and it feels like a heavy weight being lifted off their chest. Coming out of South Ozone Park, MMM isn’t here to play nice or fit into a specific box. This track is a direct response to all the industry liars and backstabbers who tried to mess with their reputation.
The story behind the song is actually pretty wild. MMM spent some time living in a penthouse in Staten Island and couldn’t help but notice the intense political vibes in the building. It got them thinking about loyalty and power, even drawing a weirdly specific comparison to the drama between Donald Trump and Mike Pence. MMM uses that “Pence is running” imagery to talk about people being disloyal in their own life.

It’s a rap song that gets political without being a lecture, which is a hard balance to hit. What I love most about the track is how they coined the message, and the flow on such beat, wow. You can actually feel every punch like you’re in the ring with them and that makes it the gangsta rap it is. We don’t do cool heads here, you can’t just be stepping on our toes and walk away, nah bro!
The track was recorded in Bushwick, Brooklyn, which MMM says is a place that really feeds their energy. You can hear that gritty New York confidence in the bars. Interestingly, MMM mentioned they hadn’t been in a booth for a while before this, so they ended up stacking their vocals four times over because they weren’t sure how to layer them. That accidental move actually gives the song a thick, intense feel that really works for a “don’t mess with me” anthem.
After working corporate jobs and dealing with the stress of rent since they were fifteen, MMM is finally stopping the habit of sitting on great music. They used to write amazing bars and just keep them in a drawer.
“They Want My Crown” is the first of many releases planned for this year, and it’s a solid start for someone who has survived plenty of obstacles. So if you’re in New York, MMM is planning to perform at Brooklyn’s Music Kitchen in Clinton Hill soon. Tickets are cheap, so it’s worth checking out if you want to see that energy in person. It’s honest, raw, and doesn’t sound like everything else on the radio.
