A Love Letter You Can Hear: Courtney Jean’s “Cloudberry”
Courtney Jean isn’t just dropping a new single, she’s basically opening the door and saying, “Come on in, I’ve got stories.” Her upcoming ten-song project digs into the good stuff: love that flips your whole world, lessons you swear you already learned (but life disagrees), and the kind of courage it takes to stand your ground even when your knees are wobbling.

Her style bounces around Country, Rock, and Americana, but she makes it all feel fresh and personal. She grew up on old-school country storytelling, and you can hear it. Her lyrics sound like someone finally saying the things they’ve been carrying around for years. Sometimes it’s soft and sweet, and sometimes it has a spark either way, you end up actually feeling something, which, let’s be honest, is rare in a world full of “skip” buttons.
Now this song “Cloudberry,” shows all of that in one go. A song which was written by herself She wrote it herself, produced by Cody Fuentes, who also mixed and mastered the track beautifully. They recorded it at Rapture Recording Studios in San Lorenzo and their own CF Collective studio in Castro Valley, which gives the song that warm, cozy feel, like someone handing you a blanket and saying, “Shh, listen.” John Connearn handled all the guitar parts, acoustic AND electric plus the bass, basically doing the musical equivalent of carrying all the groceries in with one trip. Cody took care of the drums, keeping everything steady without ever stepping on the emotion. And those soft, floating harmonies? That’s Aisea Taimani’s touch, adding just enough color without stealing the spotlight.
But the heart of “Cloudberry” is the story behind it. Courtney wrote the song for her husband, the kind of partner who inspires music just by existing. You can hear the love in every line. She also dedicates it to her daughter, who she calls the apple of her eye. It’s sweet enough to make you smile without feeling like you’re intruding on a family moment. She also gives a special shoutout to the people who have been cheering her on since day one: Devin Farney, Iain Raleigh, Bo Sonnenburg, Tre Shortland, and Miguel Muñoz. It’s clear this song didn’t grow in isolation, it came from a whole circle of support.
“Cloudberry” is simple, warm, honest, and full of heart. And if the rest of her upcoming music hits the same way, we might all be in for something special or at least a few songs that make us stare out a window like we’re in a movie.
