3 min read

Sometimes all you need is a spark to memories in the past, to an era where digitalization was less and everything was a face to face interactions, which made it more genuine and authentic. How we define artist always brings up arguments as to whether they chasing fame or they just being real and true. But I’ve got this talent here Abby Asabea who bleeds sentiments of the late Amy Winehouse, a Londoner who sticks to her true soul artistry and man she’s got this single out dubbed “The Way It Was” and it’s fire 🔥. A track that takes us back in time to enjoy how it was done in the 70s.

London, a city where it’s perceived to be dark and loneliness is loud in there, where finding love is like looking for a fish that lives on land, becomes the narrative for Abby Asabea. She pays homage to a funk, a genre that relates with soulful sounds of the 70s. Her music tho tells a story of accepting heartbreak while asking listeners to have a feel of nostalgic beats. It’s a beautiful song that sounds Soo unique and different, the lyrics and the different pitch of vocals along with those poetic lines gives the song the nostalgic vibes it needs. It’s a song you shouldn’t miss, come and enjoy good music.

Well Abby Asabea is a bit new to the London music scene, but c’mon she carries the fire even tho she been keeping her craft in secret for years, to me she was polishing it and wow, The Way It was really came out refined and the best. She does it all alone, and that’s the way she’s decided to go cos that’s her.

Now lemme glide you through “The Way It Was,” the latest Abby’s single that’s shaking the music world and making waves. In this song Abby takes us back to an era where being an artist carried power. The song which was Co-produced with this brilliant Korean producer Young Jay serves as a modern ode to funk and ’70s cinema.

“The Way It Was” comes with a groovy bass line, a detached guitar riffs, and roaring horns, which takes listeners to a cinematic 1972 setting. The song with Abby’s lyrical mastery, talks about the importance of a lost love and accepting that it’s gone and being at peace with yourself. Talking about how they don’t wanna settled down and they just wanna have fun. They didn’t even care about our feelings neither did they give us a listening ear, but that wasn’t the way it was. They wanna come back but they already shown you their true colours. Often a time we find it difficult to believe if truly the people that we loved and loved us have really left us, have they really broken up with me? You tend to understand but you just can’t seem to believe it. But this song says believe it and accept it cos your love is gone. They ain’t coming back to you. So move on and make the best out of it. I love the delivery of the song, Abby’s vocals tho 🔥🔥, nothing short of her predecessors who sang soulfully in the UK, and her tone adds extra emotions into the song. The message and the delivery makes this song a hard to miss song that everyone can relate to.

In a world where few are authentic and rare, Abby Asabea shines through with hers and comes out big. So watch out for her, cos she coming to take her crown in the music scenes. Go ahead and give The Way It Was a listen and treat yourself to some nostalgic vibes this Christmas and enjoy the best of the best. A solid 10/10 track.
