3 min read

Willing to give it all in that relationship? Well then this song is for you and not you only as we singles can also enjoy. “All I Die For” is an amazing track that offers a taste of the upcoming full-length EP, “Into The Blue Night,” from the talented band SWiiMS. This song delves into the swirling depths of Dream Pop, Indie Rock, Shoegaze, and New Wave, creating a unique musical experience. It’s a song that manages to be both intense and beautiful, much like the early stages of falling head over heels in love.

SWiiMS consists of three members: Mai Diaz Langou on vocals and guitar, Colin Thompson on guitar and vocals, and Cian O’Ruanaidh on bass and vocals. Their musical journey began during the summer before the COVID-19 pandemic, when Mai and Colin connected through a local Craigslist musician’s wanted section. They immediately clicked and began crafting what would later become their first EP, “Through Waves.” Cian joined the band in the fall, infusing a fresh perspective into their music. The EP received critical acclaim and radio play, even charting on the NACC charts.

“Into The Blue Night” has been in the works for quite some time, with most of the songs taking shape during the challenges of 2020 and 2021. Despite pandemic restrictions, the band adapted and continued to write and create music online. The album’s themes touch on various aspects of life, from the euphoria of falling in love to navigating the rough patches in relationships. It also reflects the uncertainty and emotional toll brought on by multiple COVID waves and lockdowns. For SWiiMS, “Into The Blue Night” represents a natural evolution from their first EP. It amplifies the elements of their signature sound while introducing new facets. It’s like emerging from a long tunnel into a new, but strangely familiar, light.

The album was primarily written by the band members themselves, showcasing their creative prowess. They enlisted the talents of Toronto-based producer/engineer Josh Korody to breathe new life into their music. Josh’s creativity added an extra layer of depth to the tracks, making them even more captivating. The album was mastered by Noah Mintz at Lacquer Channel in Toronto.

The first single, “All I Die For,” is a standout track that captures the initial stages of a relationship. It explores the desire to present the best version of oneself to keep someone interested. The song also beautifully encapsulates the hopefulness, bliss, and loss of control that often accompany the beginnings of new love. As for the music video for “All I Die For,” it came together quickly and creatively. Cian initiated the concept by sharing a compilation video of nighttime Toronto streetcar scenes. Then, Mai’s partner filmed scenes of the band at a nearby park, which were expertly edited and overlaid onto Cian’s footage. The result is a visually captivating music video that features all the band members and perfectly complements the song’s mood.

SWiiMS’s music has resonated with listeners across the globe, spanning different age groups and backgrounds. Their diverse range of influences, from ’80s New Wave to ’90s Indie Rock, Brit Pop, Shoegaze, and Dream Pop, appeals to a wide audience. In terms of sound and vibe, people have compared SWiiMS to various artists, including Diiv, Slowdive, Beach House, and Alvvays. This diversity of comparisons speaks to the band’s ability to capture a wide range of musical emotions and styles.

“All I Die For” is a captivating glimpse into SWiiMS’s upcoming album, “Into The Blue Night.” With its lush blend of musical influences, heartfelt lyrics, and emotionally charged melody, it’s a song that’s bound to leave a lasting impression and build anticipation for what promises to be an exciting album release. Click on the links below so you don’t miss out on their upcoming projects;
