Exzenya – “B!tch Please”: A Bluesy-Rock About Turning Betrayal Into Liberation
There’s something about relationships that as a third person you always find yourself in, and it’s quite funny. You just take it like getting caught in a messy breakup drama, expecting to see a crying breakdown, and then, the person just looks at the intruder, laughs in their face, and hands them the house keys. Like who does that? But that’s the kinda vibe that fuels independent artist Exzenya’s single, “B!tch Please“.
To those who are more familiar with her, you’d know her recent stuffs have been more on satirical pop sounds, but this time Exzenya steps right into that raw blues-rock territory on this release. The wastes no time at all, and drops you straight into a heavy, real-life moment, thus a woman facing the person who slept with her husband. One thing that would have happened here with most people would have been to either fight that woman, or make a scene out of it and cry their heart out. But Exzenya thought us something here, and rather she realizes she just got handed her freedom on a silver platter. Like thank you missy for letting me know I married a man who’s unworthy of me, so enjoy him all to yourself.
That’s the kinda vibe I get from the song and maybe that’s all we all should be doing henceforth, cos relationships are becoming too difficult these days with serial cheats who mostly get away with it. Now from an instrumental standpoint, the track relies on a classic live-band feel that has enough space for the lyrics and vocals to tell their story. The production avoids glossy over-processing, it chooses a thick, groove-heavy bassline and raw electric guitar chords that allows the vocals to shine and also let the listner enjoy that bluesy bite. The mid-tempo drum beat keeps things steady and relaxed, giving the whole piece a gritty, garage-rock punch.
The vocals lead the charge with total confidence. Exzenya delivers her lyrics with a raspy, sarcastic bite that sits perfectly over the bluesy guitar riffs, which she’s always been known for. There is no desperate shouting here, nah, no expressing of pain or sad moments here, it’s just a cool, collected attitude that makes every word land like a punchline. It’s a song that explores a sharp theme about karma, relief, and cutting bad weight loose. And just like I said, maybe that’s what we all have to start doing, when people think they are hurting you by touching your relationship, let them know they have actually done you a great service cos you were already tired and you needed that relief. The standout line, “You thought you were taking my life. You set me free,” sums up the whole story.
It exposes the fake sugar-daddy fantasy on one side and a serial cheater on the other, turning a painful betrayal into absolute liberation. And that’s it, at the end of the day, they are with a serial cheater and you on the other hand is free from that mess.
