Filip Dahl Drops “Flying High” – A Melodic Guitar Masterpiece

Music always has a way of speaking to us without even saying a word. So if you are a fan of guitarists who can actually make their instrument talk, you need to check out Filip Dahl. He is a Norwegian musician who has been around the block a few times. He started out in rock bands back in the 70s, ran a famous studio in the 80s, and then took a long break. Luckily for us, he came back in 2016 and has been putting out great music ever since.

His latest track is called “Flying High,” and it just dropped on April 24th. It is a guitar-driven instrumental that sits somewhere between a blues-rock ballad and melodic prog-rock. If you like the kind of guitar work found in bands like Pink Floyd or Deep Purple, this is going to be right up your alley.

The track is completely a one-man show. Filip composed, played, recorded, and produced the whole thing himself. You can really hear his years of experience as an engineer in how clean and balanced it sounds. The song doesn’t need a singer because the lead guitar handles all the heavy lifting. His tone is super smooth and easy to recognize. It has that “singing” quality where every note feels like it was picked with a lot of purpose.

What I love about “Flying High” is that it isn’t just a guy showing off how fast he can play. It focuses on the melody and the feeling. It builds up like a classic rock ballad, giving you plenty of space to just sit back and relax. It is the kind of song you put on when you want to clear your head.

There is also a YouTube video to go along with it where you can actually watch him play the main parts of the song. It is a cool touch because it lets you see the technique behind that signature sound. If you haven’t heard his music before, this single is probably the best place to start. It shows off exactly what he is good at without any extra fluff. Even though he stays busy with a family band project called “Transcending Into the Unknown” with his brother and son, he clearly still has plenty of gas in the tank for his solo work.

Go give “Flying High” a listen if you want to hear some top-tier guitar playing from a guy who actually knows his way around a studio. Are you a fan of long guitar solos that tell a story, or do you usually get bored if there aren’t any lyrics to follow along with? Well this might change your perspective if you’re the latter!
