Melancholic Technotronic – “Melancholic Technotronic” Album Turns Struggle Into Electronic Energy

Often a time many hit rough patches in life and never bounce back, not that they didn’t try but sometimes they just didn’t have enough reasons and energy to get back up. But have you hit a rough patch in life, gotten completely fed up with your old routines, and decided to try something totally different just to regain your sanity? You know that kind of feeling is really something that can make or break you. Questions pop up with what ifs, so what if it doesn’t work? What if I should keep trying the old methods? Well that’s exactly how UK multi-instrumentalist Paul Bruce ended up creating his self-titled album under the name “MELANCHOLIC TECHNOTRONIC”.

After playing drums and guitar in rock bands for years, he walked away from traditional band setups to build a massive synth rig in his studio. Handling every single part of the process himself, thus writing, recording, producing, and mastering, together he has created a twelve-track record that blends fast UK drum and bass, speed garage, and aggressive synth distortion. An album that’s gonna sweep you off your feets, especially those that love to party under the lights with some hotties and backyard stuffs.

Let’s see what this album has for us, shall we? The album kicks off with an aggressive opener called “THIS IS WHERE IT BEGINS“. Welcome to the party guys, we don’t waste time here, so let just jump straight into some raw energy of early 2000s post-hardcore bands through a wall of synths. The song explodes with jagged, distorted synth lines that hit with the punch of a heavy guitar riff. Snappy drum samples keep the pace fast and relentless right out of the gate. But I like how it starts though, for the very first few seconds, it’s calm and immediately hits you with the beat drop and it’s all sweaty and ready to go from there, setting a clear boundary for the album. It’s clear from this track that, you’ve gotta leave your old baggage at the door, break out of your comfort zone, and start fresh no matter how scary it looks.

Pay attention, for everything is like a journey in here. We are then transported into a darker, atmospheric groove on “THE DEATH OF SUMMER“. The production combines heavy sub-bass pulses with fast drum and bass breakbeats. Cool ambient textures loop in the background while sharp hi-hats chop through the mix, giving the track a driving late-night energy. This track has got a mood, it captures that bitter feeling of seasons changing and warm times slipping away. It reminds us that good times end, but you can still dance through the dark transition. I love the female soothing vocals that comes in to ease things out.

You ready for more? Don’t go anywhere for the tempo stays mid-high on “SOLUS”, a track built on crisp electronic rhythms and deep bass wobbles. It gives you a breather and uses space really well. It drops down into quiet, echo-filled sections before slamming back into a heavy synth hook that drives the track forward. The synth tones sound gritty and unpolished in the best way possible. This track kinda tackles loneliness and isolation. Instead of feeling sad about being alone, it turns solitude into a source of quiet strength and independence.

After how far we’ve come through the journey, I wanna ask “ARE YOU DOWN?“, a dancefloor-ready track that brings a huge bouncy energy to the middle of the album. Built around speed garage beats and rolling basslines, I like the way it packs a punchy rhythm that keeps your feet moving. Bright synth chops zip across the stereo field while a tight snare drum keeps the timing rock solid. If life throws a lot of garbage your way, so are you ready to jump in, let go, and enjoy the ride anyway? It’s really smooth and fast in here, so if you know you ain’t down for the speed highway, just take a chill pill and enjoy a tense atmosphere in “ANXIOUS”, a song that turns mental tension into physical movement. It’s got a bit of fire in here, with drum loops and buzzing, distorted basslines reminiscent of classic Prodigy tracks. The relentless rhythm mirrors a racing heartbeat, creating a tense atmosphere that feels like a pressure cooker ready to pop. The sweet sensual vocals smoothens things out a bit, allowing you to turn frantic energy into a heavy electronic workout, whilst offering you a healthy way to sweat out your daily worries.

Serving as a major centerpiece for the record, “IT’S A VIBE” delivers pure, unadulterated festival energy. The track centers on a massive, catchy synth hook and heavy electronic drops. Clean drum patterns drive a confident tempo, creating an instant crowd-pleaser that stays stuck in your head after one listen. It’s all about finding real joy again after going through tough times in Anxious. It encourages listeners to soak up good moments whenever they appear and ride the positive momentum as long as possible.

The album then takes a sharp, edgy turn with “GHOSTED”, featuring biting synth lines and punchy electronic percussion. I like how the track shifts between sharp, sudden stops and fast bursts of speed garage rhythms. Heavy bass hits bounce beneath gritty synth leads, giving the track a chaotic, unpredictable feel. This track kinda gives us that sudden silence, broken connections, and being left in the dark by people you trusted. It channels that frustration straight into heavy beats, turning rejection into pure momentum.

I love this track “BLACK HOLE” and the way it brings a thick, dark, and heavy electronic sound to the table. In here, deep, rumbling sub-bass that vibrates through your speakers, balanced by sharp, metallic drum samples strikes you. The track builds beautifully, layer by layer until it hits a huge, sweeping drop that feels massive. Life can be heavy sometimes and sometimes you need this heavy blast of music to blast your way out of any darkness. The vocals are great and love how it mixes them together whilst they trade in and out.

The tempo eases up slightly on “GRACE”, offering a more melodic and spacious moment on the album. Warm synth chords float over a steady drum beat, creating an open atmosphere that lets the melodies breathe. It’s clean and balanced, blending ambient pads with gentle bass pulses. Life is crazy and sometimes you need second chances to make things right. But if you can’t forgive yourself for past mistakes and room to heal, then all efforts to move on would be in vain.

Things are slowed down on “FADE AWAY“, by pulling the handbrake, it brings a much slower, more patient tempo to the mix. The production relies on deep, steady bass pulses and clean, spacious drum hits that let every beat breathe. Soft, floating synth melodies creep into the mix slowly, creating a quiet, atmospheric mood that gives your ears a much-needed breather whilst we get closer to the end of the album. It lovely how the arrangement keeps a great balance between bright melodies and heavy low-end power. As we live, time will always pass and therefore sometimes we have to let go off things we can’t control. Move on and let all grudges fade away.

As we near the end of the journey, “10/10 BLEED OUT SPOT” comes in with steady drum machine hits and a clean, rolling synth bassline that keeps the energy grounded rather than chaotic. Gentle synth textures layer over the beat, giving the arrangement a smooth, steady groove that lets the rhythm carry the load without overwhelming your speakers. When life puts you down, and you get back up, celebrate your wins and let them know you’ve got nothing left to loose, cos you’ve been through it all.

Closing out the album, “SWANSONG” delivers an emotional finale that brings the whole project to a satisfying close. I love how calm and smooth this one builds with deep bass swells, ringing synth melodies, and a steady, patient drum groove. It gradually builds toward a rich wall of electronic sound before slowly fading out into quiet stillness. It’s a long track and serves as a final release of all the stress and hard times that sparked the album in the first place. It leaves you with a feeling of relief, accomplishment, and peace.

Well well well, that’s quite some journey innit? Melancholic Technotronic has really served us with a heavy, energetic electronic record full of grit, fast beats, and honest emotion. It skips lazy studio trends, offering a raw, DIY album that turns personal struggles into pure energy. So to lovers of heavy synths, fast drum and bass, and high-energy electronic music, give this album a full listen and dance all the chaos and struggles away.
